A Military whip with a 15ct gold collar, inscribed 'Captain W Feilden, Doveridge, Derby', and makers names 'Merry St, James St' (62cms long). Also with another whip with horn shaft, silver mounted collar and antler handle (64.5cms long). (2) *This could be William Morton Buller Feilden MC (1893-1976) of the Derbyshire Yeomanry (Territorial Force), 2nd Lieutenant from 3/4/13, Lieutenant later, 1/9/16 wounded and entitled to wound stripe, later Captain, Awarded UK Military Cross for distinguished service in the field, mentioned in dispatches twice and Italian silver medal for valour. ** Generally good, some wear in places as you would expect over time. Horn whip, missing leather strap at handle, silver collar with a couple of minor dents.
A slender vase in the Pomegranate design and mounted with a pewter base, stamped 'Tudric Moorcroft, 01310', 17cms high. Also with a Moorcroft dish with a silver plated handle and mount to the rim (12cms diameter). (2). ** Dish, there is a line across the body which may be a crack, its 7cms long. Vase, I think the top section of the vase has been restored, its very smooth to the touch and no crazing to those areas.
Including a small silver plated dish with porcelain roundel in the Pomegranate design (11.5cms dia), a dish with metal mount (chip to base), and two other dishes (10.5cms and 8.5cms dia). (4). ** One with metal mount, mount quite corroded in places, damage to side where it has been knocked and cracks, chip to footrim Small dish, nick to footrim. The other two seem ok.
Two unusual barrel shaped toggles for a coat, in the Pomegranate design, both with metal hooks (3cms and 2.5cms long). Also with a pepper pot with a silver lid (8cms high), and another condiment with rubber base (5cms high). (4). ** Toggles, both seem ok with circular depressions where the hooks are set into. Pepper pot, lid with a couple of small dents Condiment, seems ok.
A pair of blue glass decanters with fluted bodies, one with a silver and cork stopper, the other silver plated and cork, and with two wine labels for Brandy and Whiskey (Brandy label is silver, Birmingham 1855, Taylor & Perry, Whiskey is unmarked, not a pair). Decanters 28cms high (excluding stoppers). ** Decanters seem fine, labels seem ok.
A good quality claret jug, the green glass body etched with figures, vine leaves and grapes. The silver lid with a cherub finial and further leaves and grapes in relief, the inside gilded. With impressed Austro-Hungarian marks, and maker 'NS'. 31.5cms high. ** Condition is good, it has been used and the inside at the bottom is a little cloudy and needs a clean.
Various 20thc items, including a circular dish painted with various animals in the Chinese style, and with a silver rim (stamped Heinr Bleyer Jnr, 800, Chemnitz, 13.5cms across) a trumpet shaped vase painted with sprays of flowers and gilded borders to the rim and base (16cms high). Also with a globular vase painted with flowers (14cms high), two lobbed cups and saucers with panels of flowers, a small basket (13cms across), miniature lidded jars and vase, and small dish. Also with a Schumann dish. (13). ** Trumpet vase, repaired chip to base rim, some wear to gilding Globular vase, second quality, very worn rim Red cup, tiny nick to rim Miniature vase, possibly missing a stopper Other items seem fine.
A 20thc large white silk and embroidered kimono, designed with birds and flowers, with a textured silver lining (188cms high). Also with a dark brown skirt and belt, and a gold patterned short length Kimono jacket with embroidered motifs and silk lining. (100cms high). (4). ** See online images.
Possibly taken from a large Kimono, with a raised design and embroidered with flowers and butterflies with silver metallic thread and blue detailing to the butterflies. Embroidered on a dark orange coloured material and both framed. 145cms by 29cms, frames 156cms by 36cms. ** Some stains and discolouration to the material over time, otherwise in reasonable condition.
A Great War medal trio, awarded to 565 Sjt. John Goodwin Cowell 1/1st Royal Buckinghamshire Yeomanry. Notes: To Egypt 21 April 1915. Landed Suvla Bay 18 August 1915, returned Egypt December 1915. Transferred to the Western Front on January 1916. Discharged 25 March 1916 due to sickness and awarded Silver War Badge Medal, Number 7494. Born near Winslow, Buckinghamshire 22 April 1892. Commissioned 8th August 1915. Great War Discharge Certificate issued 11th February 1919. Entitled to Silver War Badge Number B 80836. Postal Address: From 1, Cromwell Road, Pendleton, Manchester. Born 1890, Died 1941. Son, Roy, aged 20, died 22nd June 1940. R.N. NB. A Great War 1918 French Theatre D.C.M. Medaille Militaire group of six, awarded to Sergeant W T Gibbs 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers, comprising Distinguished Conduct Medal G.V.R (9850 Cpl. W. T. Gibbs. 1/S, Wales Bord.), 1914 Star, with clasp (9580 Pte. W. T. Gibbs, S. Wales Bord.), British War and Victory Medals (9580 Cpl. W. T. Gibbs. S.Wales Bord.), Army L.S. & G.C. G.V.R. 2nd issue with fixed suspension (3902236 Sjt. W. T. Gibbs. D.C.M. S.Wales Bord.), France, Third Republic, Medaille Militaire, silver, silver gilt and enamel, with trophy of arms suspension, worn. (6). Notes: Medaille Militaire: London Gazette 10 October 1918, D.C.M. London Gazette 21 October 1918. 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During very severe fighting this N.C.O. who was in charge of stretcher-bearers, set a very fine example of courage and self sacrifice in the face of danger, moving about in the open during all the fighting, to ensure that the stretcher-bearers dealt with the casualties. He was working in this manner for over twelve hours, not withstanding shell fire of an intense description, and the fact that he himself had been knocked over by the explosion of a shell close to him.' William Thomas Gibbs, born 6th June at Trevethin, Monmouthshire, was a native of Caerau, Bridgend (London Gazette Records). He enlisted in the South Wales Borderers in July 1907, and served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion on the Western Front from 22 August 1914. Sgt William Gibbs transferred to the Army Reserve in February 1919, only to re-enlist in August of the same year as 3902236. He served with the Home Battalion until discharged at Portsmouth in 1931. Gibbs died 12th August 1953, having married with two sons and a daughter, in Gosport, Hampshire. EX DNW 17th Sept 2020. NB. A cased silver presentation set, to Captain Thomas James Victor Davis and Mrs Davis on the occasion of their Silver Wedding Anniversary, September 4th 1940. Presented by Lt. Col and Mrs John Moubray, Coldstream Guards. Sergt. Davis entered the French Theatre of War on 12th August 1914. Entitled to a 1914 Star Trio and Clasp. Awarded a Military Medal on 15th March 1919 and a Meritorious Service Medal on the 18th January 1919. Thomas was born in 1888 and attested in Swindon on 18th March 1909 aged 18 and a half, having been a Railway Porter. He married Mary Anne Miller in Caterham on 4th September 1915. Commissioned as Lt Q M on 1st October 1931. Later awarded an OBE as Captain Q M 1st April 1941. He died in Blandford 18th December 1963. NB. Two silver cups, comprising larger cup with cover, hallmarked for 1930, 380g with inscription 'The Minworth Challenge Cup presented to 6th Bn The Royal Warwickshire Regt. by Harry Wood Esq of The New Inn, Minworth 1930'. smaller cup, hallmarked for Birmingham 1925, 150g, with inscription 'Replica of the B & M Trophy won by R S M W A Taylor DCM 1925, 6th Royal Warwickshire Regiment Score 245 H P S 280'. Together with three Pearsall silver plated plaques, 17.5cm high, named to W A Taylor of 6th Bn Royal Warwickshire Regiment. All to 9663 WO Class 2 William Alford Taylor DCM Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Born in Stockton, Warwickshire c1889. Landed France 22nd August 1914 with 1st Bn who was engaged in the Retreat from Mons in August 1914. Entitled to 1914 Star Trio with clasp and roses. Wounded on August 6th 1916 and drafted to the 16th Bn on Recovery. Later living in Moseley, Birmingham. Note: DCM Gazetted 15th November 1918. Taylor saw service in India and was entitled to an Indian General Service Medal 1908 and a Delhi Durbar 1911 medal. NB.
