Hallmarked Silver Identity Disc of Commodore Sir Drury St Aubyn Wake K.C.I.E C.B Royal Navy, fine example with silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1918, engraved with the details of the owner and “GRANTON NAVAL BASE”. Sir Drury St Aubyn Wake was born on 16th September 1863. His father was an Admiral in the Royal Navy. Wake joined the navy and steadily rose through the officer ranks. In 1912 he was appointed captain of HMS Formidable and remained in command up to the beginning of WW1. On the 18th October 1915, he was appointed as the senior naval officer, Persian Gulf, with the rank of Commodore second class. His Order of the Bath (C.B) was awarded in the Kings Birthday honours 3rd June 1916 and in January 1917 was appointed Companion in the Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E). In April 1917 he was promoted to the rank of rear Admiral, later that month he was placed on the retired list at his own request. 3rd June 1918 he was knighted and appointed Additional Knight Commander in the Order of the Indian Empire (K.C.I.E). 11th September 1918, Wake replaced Admiral Sir James Startin as senior naval officer at Granton with the temporary rank of Commodore 2nd class Royal Naval Reserve. He finally rose to the rank of Admiral on 25th October 1926 and he died on 23rd September 1935.
4x Great War Identity Discs of Tyneside Scottish Battalions Northumberland Fusiliers, consisting of hallmarked silver example (Birmingham 1917) engraved “PTE F FULLERTON 28222 C.E. 21ST N.F B.E.F FRANCE”; alloy oval identity disc stamped “Lieut C T Trigg C.E 3rd Tyneside Scottish”; brass oval identity disc crudely engraved “Sgt J T SPARKES 69922 B.E.F TYNESIDE – SCOTTICH” note the miss-spelling of Scottish, would indicate made outside of the UK; French Napoleon III coin, stamped “HARDMAN JA 35041 4 TYNESIDE SCOTTISH”. (4 items) Frederick Fullerton served with the 21st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers 2nd Tyneside Scottish, the battalion landed in France 1916 and disbanded in 1917, Fullerton later served with the KOYLI with service number 63139; Lieutenant Charles Thomas Trigg was from Newcastle Upon Tyne, he served with the Northumberland Fusiliers overseas in France from 10th January 1916. He was awarded the Silver War Badge for a gun shot wound he received, he was awarded the British War & Victory medals; Private J A Hardman was from Hulme, Lancashire, he was serving with the 21st battalion Northumberland Fusiliers / 2nd Tyneside Scottish when he was wounded by gun shot in 1917.
Victorian 30th (Cambridgeshire) Regiment of Foot Officers Shoulder Belt Plate Pre 1855, mounted on black marble base with silver Crimean war battle honour ribbons and presentation engraving “Lieut John Campbell XXXth Regt TO R.O.C XXX”. The belt plate is fitted to the base but can be removed by unscrewing the fittings from underneath. Overall a very good example. Ex Jerry Withers collection
