Tudor Silver Gilt Dress Pin. Circa, 16th century AD. Silver, 8.19 g, 97.58 mm. Pin head, 18.21 mm. A large Tudor period dress pin formed of a long tapering shaft and spherical head. The head is beautifully decorated with granules in and around large filigree circles, each enclosing four small filigree hoops. From an old English collection, purchased from an Essex jewellery collection.

The centre figure appears to be being slain by the figures at his side, each brandishing a sword. Most likely a representation of Thomas Becket being murdered by the kings knights. Ref: B. Read.
