An attractive 24 bore Coorg matchlock matchlock gun, 62” overall, octagonal barrel 48” secured by 2 broad engraved silver sleeves and 40 individual narrow silver bands, the steel sideplates overlaid with filigree decorated silver ‘saddle’, the butt decorated with 3 silver bands adorned with rosettes, hide covered ball terminal to butt, original silver tipped wooden ramrod. An untouched pair of 20 bore flintlock holster pistols, by Thomas, c 1775, 13½”, barrels 8” engraved with tear drop panels, early style rounded locks with swan neck cocks and unbridled frizzens, plain walnut fullstocks with plain silver wire inlaid panel around barrel tangs; brass mounts including oval escutcheons, open work sideplates and simple domed buttcaps, horn tipped ramrods. GWO&C, the locks retaining traces of original bright steel finish (barrels and locks lightly pitted overall, one ramrod slightly damaged and lacking worm). Plate 7
A suite of Persian 19th century Qjar armour khula khud, dhal and bazu band, chiselled overall with flowers and foliage in low relief, within damascened shaped cartouches, borders chiselled with cartouches and roundels of Islamic caligraphy silver damascened. A large silver plated shooting prize shield, with scrollwork, foliage, a kneeling soldier with rifle and tin helmet in the centre, and a scroll, supported by 2 female figures, engraved “Presented by Lt Col W McGee Armstrong to the Best Shooting Company of the 3rd (FS) Gn Bn Bedford Regt, Meiktila, April 1918”, on a shaped wooden board. A fine and well documented Sultan of Oman Gallantry medal group, awarded posthumously to Major P.S. Wright, Royal Engineers, on secondment to the SAS and in command of the Jebel Regiment at the time of the award, 25th October 1973. Comprising Gallantry medal, miniature and ribbon bar, each with ribbon clasp, in silver and enamels, in fitted Asprey case of issue. His Oman campaign medals, as issued, unnamed, with ribbon and bar clasp, miniatures, ribbon bar, in Spink and Son case of issue. Also: Framed Buckingham Palace bestowal document, 25th October 1973, to Major P.S. Wright; An official notification and lengthy description of his outstanding gallantry action for the award from the Commander, Sultans Armed Forces, 23rd May 1973; His copy entry page in the book of remembrance, Sultan Armed Forces Association, Sandhurst; Official invitation to next of kin for the Memorial Service, and sundry Memorial Service literature, 8th September 1977; Two fine framed photographs of him in centre front of seated comrades; A series of original photographs of operations in Oman, some showing him, some from the RAF Field Squadron with "restricted" status; Two official dispatches, one from the MOD, 29th April 1971, the other from the Oman Artillery, 22nd May 1972, concerning operations in Oman, and a Daily Telegraph map of the Middle East; Four wall plaques, one named to him and one from the SAS Regiment.
