A Charles II Silver Dish, Probably by Hugh Bollen, London, Probably 1664, circular, the broad rim chased with a lion, a unicorn, a hound and a bull, each within trailing foliage and flowers, 37.2cm diameter, 26oz 4dwt, 816grFootnote: This maker's mark has recently been attributed to Hugh Bollen (see D. Mitchell, Silversmiths in Elizabethan and Stuart London, Their Lives and Their Marks, Woodbridge, 2017, pp. 330-321). Bollen would seem to have had a long career both as a silversmith and a retailer.Condition report: Fully marked near rim. There is some wear to the marks but in general the marks are legible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There have been some small repairs but these are mainly only visible from the reverse. Presumably the dish originally had a trumpet foot to act as a stand. This has been removed, though there is no obvious sign that it was originally there.

Mitchell, Silversmiths in Elizabethan and Stuart London, Their Lives and Their Marks, Woodbridge, 2017, p. 453).Condition report: Fully marked near handle and on cover. The handle marked with maker's mark only. There is some wear to the marks but they are generally still legible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The lower handle junction has been reattached and with a strengthening plate added. There is no obvious sign of thinning but the tankard has possibly been erased. The surface is somewhat bright.

A Charles II Provincial Silver Puritan Spoon, by Rowland Kirby, York, circa 1670, with plain tapering handle, the back of the bowl engraved with initials, 19cm long, 1oz 11dwt, 49grFootnote: Rowland Kirkby is recorded as being free in 1669 (H Murray, Directory of York Goldsmiths, Silversmiths and Associated Craftsmen, York, 1998, p. 85). Murray further notes that 'six silver boats bought from him by Edward Malt on behalf of Major John Wallis'. These were bought, along with items from other silversmiths including Thomas Mangy on behalf of the Wardens of the London Goldsmiths' Company in 1671.Little else is mentioned about him and he would seem to have only been working until 1680.Condition report: Marked on back of stem with maker's mark only. There is some wear to the makers mark, though it is still legible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is most noticeable as a slight loss/thinning to the edge of the bowl on one side. There are some minor bruises in the bowl.

There is some minor wear to the marks but they are still legible. Further engraved with initials 'G:L' over 'A'. There is some surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the border. The centre shows no signs of thinning but it is possible the salver has been erased. The feet have possible been re-soldered.

There are some bruises to the vacant cartouches which have possibly been erased. There is a bruise to the base on one side and the wood handle is probably replaced.

The wear is noticeable as a softening to the engraving. There is a possible repair to the bottom of the teapot.

There is some wear to the marks but they are generally clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The owl may be associated to the stand as there are signs of solder where it has been reattached to the stem. The eyes have possibly been re-glued. The cushion is somewhat worn.

A Chinese Silver Filagree Posy-Holder, Circa 1900, the handle formed a fish, the trumpet-shaped vase with openwork foliage and flowers, with the base of the original box, the box 17.2cm wideCondition report: A small leaf has become detached on one side just at the fish's mouth. Only the base of the original box is present and it is in somewhat distressed condition.

A French Silver and Enamel Erotic Vesta-Case, With Indistinct Maker's Mark and French Standard Mark for Small Articles, Probably Late 19th Century, oblong, the spring-loaded hinged cover and base each enamelled with a female nude in an interior, each reflected in a mirror, three sides further enamelled with landscapes, the other side with a match striker, the interior with blue enamel, 4.9cm highCondition report: The hinged spring-loaded cover marked on the top with a maker's mark in lozenge and with French standard mark. One short side marked with maker's mark and the other with standard mark. The makers mark is illegible. There are scratches to the enamel on both the base and the cover. The mounts are probably silver-gilt and would benefit from cleaning.

The marks are generally clear. There is some surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There are some chips and mostly minor losses to the enamel.

The marks are somewhat poorly struck. There are some overall surface scratches and wear as well as minor flaws to the enamel.

Further stamped 'Sterling' and numbered '239'. The marks are generally clear. One side is engraved with initials and the other dated '1892'. There is a small repair to the shoulder on one side.The Whiting Example: Marked on rim with Whiting mark. Further stamped 'Sterling' and numbered '1581' and 'Pat 1873'. There are some minor surface scratches and wear, consistent with age and use.

A Continental or American Silver-Gilt and Enamel Minaudiere and Lipstick Holder, Stamped 'Sterling', 20th Century, the minaudiere purse-shaped enamelled on each side in peach over an engine-turned ground, the front with a scene of figures in a landscape, opens to reveal two compartments on one side and a detachable mirror on the other, connected to the similarly enamelled lipstick holder with enamelled chains, maximum width 12.6cmCondition report: Stamped 'Sterling' inside. There is some surface scratching and wear to both the silver and the enamel, consistent with age and use. The mirror plate has some damage to the reflective surface and is somewhat loose fitting in the case.

There are some overall surface scratches and minor wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a minor softening to the gilding. Some of the pastes are differing and may have been replaced, though this is mostly only noticeable under magnification.
