An extraordinary silver mounted tortoise carapace table snuff box, of attractively variegated shell, the plastron forming the lid and with moulded mounts engraved with panels of flowers and ribbon tied foliage, the integral hinge made "invisible' by the line of diaper engraving, 5. 5cm h, 10cm w, apparently unmarked, mid-19th c . Very light overall wear but no damage or repair and most unusual.

A Victorian carved ivory desk seal, the oblong cornelian matrix with an intaglio crest in silver shank chased with flowers and leaves, the finely turned ivory baluster handle with a pommel of carved roses, tulips and other flowers and overlapping leaves, crested by a rosette, 10cm h. In excellent condition, no restoration. (See lot 895 for illustration).
A gold, cast silver and enamel standing seal, the lapis octagonal matrix inscribed Ellum?, with waisted shank, the handle cast as the figure of a female saint, 5. 8cm h, late 19th c, fitted morocco case . In fine condition, some old polish residue on the figure, the case also fine and likely to be the original.
A Louis XVI silver mounted tortoiseshell necessaire, with serpentine sides and sloping lid applied with pierced and engraved mounts of festoons and a basket of flowers, a trophy to the lid, the fitted interior with silver and other accessories, including a pair of glass scent bottles with enamelled bird finials, the underside of the lid retaining part of the original pink silk lining trimmed with bullion braid, retaining a mirror to the underside of the lid, 8cm h excluding handle, 7. 5cm w, decharge marks to several pieces, c1760. Two largish chips to the tortoiseshell veneers on the front of the exterior the interior retaining all but one of the accessories all believed to be original, the enamel to the two bird stoppers of scent bottles rather chipped and worn, the lining to the underside of the lid very frayed and with some loss.
A rare and amusing Victorian silver and enamel vesta case, the lid with a scene of two giant turtles amidst luxuriant vegetation above the title 'ROMEO AND JULIET' and inscribed Permission STANLEY BERKELEY, 4 x 2. 7cm, by Horton & Allday, Birmingham 1887. In excellent condition with a few superficial scratches to the enamel which are only noticeable when held at an oblique angle to the light, minimal wear to the box overall, no restoration. A delightful example of a Victorian silver and enamel novelty vesta case, in an overall excellent state of preservation.
A Victorian cast silver gilt scent bottle in the form of a swallow, realistically modelled with well defined plumage, 4. 5cm h, 14cm l, by Johnson, Sons & Edmonds, London 1894, 5ozs. In fine condition, the feet very slightly bent, which could be easily straightened, the marks excellent by a good maker; a rare piece of novelty small work of fine quality.
A Continental silver compressed circular box, the lid embossed with the head of a cavalier, the sides with trailing flowers, 9cm diam, bearing spurious Augsburg 17th c marks, import marked by J G Smith & Co, London 1900, 5ozs 10dwts . In very good overall condition with only minimal wear, the hinge tight etc, the underside engraved in facsimile script with the word Tuck, no damage or repairs, the marks fine.
A George III silver nutmeg grater, of egg shape with tin rasp, 4. 5cm h, by Joseph Taylor, Birmingham 1806. A few very minor bruises here or there but in overall very good condition with no damage or repairs. The rasp original, fully marked to both pieces, the marks fair to very good. A fine Russian silver gilt snuff box, engraved to the lid with an eagle, ears of wheat in its talons, the underside with a domestic scene of a young woman reading to two children, the octagonal frame engraved with four dates from 1780 to 1788, in flat chased borders of scrolling foliage, with baskets of fruit to the angles, the sides reeded and with shaped thumbpiece, 9. 5 x 7cm, 84 (. 875 standard), maker's mark untraced, Moscow,assay master's mark, 1822-55, 6ozs 10dwts. In generally very good condition with minimal wear, a short inscription erased from the banner carried in the eagle's bill. On the underside of the lid a two line later engraved inscription dated 1950. The maker's mark excellent, the other mark slight indistinct, no damage or repair. (See lot 876 for illustration).

A George IV rosewood tea caddy, of plain rectangular shape with shallow sunken panels to each side and cast silver handle, the hallmarks rubbed, the interior divided into compartments, 34 x 17cm. Very dry and in need of polishing, the odd minor knock to a couple of the corners but in overall excellent and completely original condition, the hinges original and undamaged, the fitted interior also complete and original but lacking both of the tea canisters and the jar (See lot 1252 for illustration).
An early Victorian tortoiseshell tea caddy, with domed lid and serpentine front, veneered in richly marked shell outlined with wire stringing, the divided interior retaining a pair of covers, on ebonised ball feet, 18. 5 x 11. 5. In generally very good condition with only the odd minor chip, small repair at the back of the lid near one of the hinges. On the interior small repairs to the veneers on the two lids, also the caddy has been recently lined rather inexpertly with silver foil, the feet replaced (See lot 1252 for illustration).
A fine George III mahogany artist's box, finely figured and line inlaid, the fitted interior with a hinged scarlet morocco board, the drawer to the base retaining the finely engraved large trade label of W J REEVES AND WOODYER (late T Reeves & Son). . 80 Holborn-Bridge, London, silver wire handles, 36. 5 x 28. 5cm . In overall excellent condition and entirely unrestored, two pieces of stringing detached but present, the label in an unusually fine state of preservation without loss scratches or scuffing, on the exterior a few old marks and scratches to the top which would benefit from being polished. A very rare silver mounted ivory bellows for perfumed powder, turned circular with a small central hole and fine leather collapsible bellows, 7cm diam, early-mid18th c. In an unusually fine state of preservation with no splits or cracks to the ivory, the paper collapsible sides in fine condition. Some rust to the iron needle in the centre in the interior.
An unusual Swiss silver combined pocket barometer and keyless lever watch, the enamelled dial to the centre inscribed SWISS MADE, the outer silver scale WATCH BAROMETER PATENT, the backplate stamped with circular trademark and No1450, in engine turned case with Swiss control marks, No8951854, in scarlet morocco travelling case, signed for Benzie High Street Cowes, c1900. In excellent "as new' condition and apparently good working order the barometer reacting to pressure changes, the morocco case rather worn, the strut at the back detached, the looped handle broken.
A Royal Worcester plaque, painted with highland cattle in a misty landscape by H Stinton, signed, 8. 5cm diam, mounted in a silver tazza with detachable spool shaped foot, 10cm h, printed mark, date code for 1912, hallmarked Birmingham 1912. Plaque - in fine condition, no damage or restoration. Silver - in fine condition, the foot very slightly distorted which could be easily straightened, the hallmarks slightly rubbed but remaining in acceptable condition (See lot 452 for illustration).
A set of six Royal Worcester coffee cups and saucers, painted with highland cattle in landscapes by Stinton, all signed and gilt, saucer 10cm diam, printed mark, pattern W9003, date code for 1934 and 1935, with a set of silver gilt coffee spoons, London 1935, in fitted case signed for the retailer Eveleigh Bishop Ltd, Leeds (18). One cup with a faint minor descending hairline crack, one or two cups with some localised crazing well clear of the decoration and is not too noticeable.
