A George III oak and iron strengthened silver chest bearing the plaque of Captn Hoste R V, with long hinged hasp opening to reveal marbled paper and green baize lined interior with upper lift out tray, with iron side carrying handles, 75cm(W) x 47.5cm(D) x 46cm(H) Condition: Lid with full length split, rusty mounts, handles are different (one is loose), moth damage internally and wear to the baize, moulding around lock area of the lid is damaged. This has been handed down through the family and is the first time that it has appeared on the market. Captain Sir William Hoste, 1st Baronet KCB RN (26th August 1780 - 6 December 1828) was a Royal Navy captain. Best known as one of the Lord Nelson's protégés, Hoste was one of the great frigate captains of the Napoleonic wars, taking part in six major actions including the capture of the heavily fortified port of Kotor. He was however absent from Trafalgar having being sent by Nelson to deliver gifts to the Dey of Algiers. As a young man he served under Nelson as his servant between 1793-1798, and was present along side him at the Battle of St Vincent and the Battle of the Nile Hoste Swiftly rose to the rank of captain, and would go on to become, in his own right, one of the great captains of the Napoleonic wars .  He married Lady Harriet Walpole on April 17th 1817. She was the daughter of Horatio Walpole 2nd Earl of Orford and Sophia Spencer.

Unteroffizier Heinrich Loose vom Kürassier-Regiment "von Driesen" (Westfälisches) Nr. 4 - Koller M 1910 Feldgraues Tuch mit roten Vorstößen, der Kragen und die schwedischen Aufschläge mit silbernen Unteroffizierstressen (gedunkelt, berieben), am Kragen zwei Sergeantenknöpfe (30 mm), Kronenknöpfe aus grau lackiertem Eisen, zwei Seitentaschen, eingeschlaufte Mannschaftsschulterstücke mit Regimentsnummer "4" in roter Kurbelstickerei, an den Schultern eingehakte "Schwalbennester" für Trompeter, anhängende Schützenschnur, rechts ein Fechtwinkel am Arm. Weißes Baumwollfutter mit undeutlichem Kammerstempel und darüber altem Trägernamen "Untffz. Loose", im Schoßbereich feldgraues Futter mit zwei Taschen. Kaiserin Elisabeth von Österreich - Petschaft mit Allianzwappen, um 1870 Karneol-Siegelfläche mit fein geschnittenem bayerischen und österreichischen Wappen auf bekröntem Hermelin, Durchmesser 26 mm. Die Fassung aus vergoldetem Silber mit erhabenen Voluten und Ranken sowie acht gefassten Halbedelsteinen. Das Griffstück aus balusterförmig geschnittenem roten Achat. Höhe 11 cm. Aufbewahrt in rotsamten gefütterter Metallkassette mit feuervergoldeten, gravierten Beschlägen, Tragegriff und kleinem Vorhängeschloss mit Schlüssel. Maße ca. 15 x 10 x 9 cm. Die Kassette im Schutzkarton mit gepolsterter Fütterung sowie Inventaretikett "Privatfond I.K.K. Majestät" am Boden. Ein ebenfalls in diesem Katalog angebotenes Kuvert der Kaiserin an den Kaiser aus Sassetot 1875 wurde höchstwahrscheinlich mit diesem Petschaft gesiegelt.Provenienz: Hermann Historica, 36. Empress Elisabeth of Austria - a personal seal with alliance coat of arms, circa 1870 The carnelian seal surface with a finely chased Bavarian and Austrian coat of arms on crowned ermine, diameter 26 mm. The setting made of gilt silver with raised volutes and tendrils, plus eight inset, semi-precious stones. The red agate handle chiselled in the shape of a baluster. Height 11 cm. Stored in a red-velvet lined, metal case with fire-gilt, engraved fittings, handle and small padlock including key. Dimensions approx. 15 x 10 x 9 cm. Inside a slipcase with a padded lining, the inventory label on the base reads "Privatfond I.K.K. Majestät". An envelope sent by the Empress to the Kaiser from Sassetot in 1875, also for sale in this catalogue, was most likely sealed with this seal.Provenance: Hermann Historica, 36th Auction 1998, lot no. 3228.
