Founded by George Cecil Ives in 1897 as a result of his belief that homosexuals would not be accepted in society and would therefore need a secret means of underground communication. An elaborate system of rituals, ceremonies, a service of initiation, seals, codes, and passwords were established.Although there was never a list of members it is believed that Oscar Wilde, an old friend of George Ives, was an early member.
