A CASED 50 BORE SIX-SHOT PERCUSSION PEPPERBOX REVOLVER BY GEO. & JNO. DEANE, 30 KING WILLIAM ST, LONDON BRIDGE, CIRCA 1846-51 with scroll-engraved case-hardened fluted barrel group, case-hardened self-cocking action (defective), signed within a frame of scrollwork on the left, and finely engraved with a panel of scrollwork on the right, engraved case-hardened bar-hammer, engraved sliding safety-catch, engraved trigger-guard, finely chequered walnut butt fitted with scroll-engraved butt-cap with trap, vacant silver escutcheon, and retaining traces of original finish throughout: in its original brass-bound mahogany fitted case lined in green baize, the lid applied with trade label for 30 King William Street (one small tear), and complete with copper Sykes patent flask and nipple key 22.5cm; 8 7/8in George and John Deane were appointed gunmakers to Prince Albert in 1848 and exhibited an electroplated silver revolving pistol at the Great Exhibition in 1851. They were succeeded at the same address by Deane Adams & Deane. See H.L. Blackmore 1986, p.80.

A FRENCH SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUN FOR PRESENTATION TO AN EASTERN POTENTATE, DATED 1816 with two-stage swamped `Spanish` barrel fitted with silver `spider` fore-sight, chiselled with a band of acanthus on a gilt ground at the girdle, inscribed `En Eybar de Herraduras ano de 1816` in silver enclosed by sprays of silver foliage over the breech and stamped with the barrelsmith`s marks, `J-Hybara`, and a series of gold-lined decorative marks (losses), gold-lined vent, engraved tang, flush-fitting lock chiselled with scrolling foliage on a gilt ground (losses), pierced cock decorated en suite, semi-rainproof pan (previously gold-lined), figured walnut full stock cut with a panel of chequering at the fore-end and the grip (small chips, inlaid over the greater part of its surface with engraved silver floral plaquettes and silver wire scrollwork, the butt inlaid with a brief inscription on each side of the spine and decorated with further designs including a pair of cornucopia and a vase on each side of the butt (the silver inlays and wire with losses and replacements), silver mounts stamped with eastern or North African marks, comprising solid side-plate decorated with trophies-of-arms, trigger-guard decorated with trophies on the bow and rococo ornament on the finial, butt-plate en suite, three ramrod-pipes, and a pair of sling swivels (later ramrod) 91cm; 35 7/8in barrel The inscription is of North African type and reads `amal al-hajj al-sadiq idris`, in translation `The work of the sincere pilgrim, Idris`.

A RARE PAIR OF 32 BORE RUSSIAN FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOLS BY JOHANN ADOLPH GRECKE, ST PETERSBURG, CIRCA 1780 with reblued two-stage barrels signed in silver over the breeches (the vents enlarged), plain tangs, engraved bevelled locks decorated with bold scrolls of foliage and a demi-mask issuant with foliage beneath the pans, engraved cocks (one restored), refaced moulded steels, figured walnut full stocks moulded over the fore-ends (one repaired) and about the barrel tangs, brass mounts including solid side-plates engraved with foliage en suite with the locks, spurred pommels engraved with an expanded flowerhead on the caps, foliate escutcheons, horn fore-end caps and later ramrods 35cm; 13 3/4in (2) Johann Adolf Grecke was maker to the Russian Imperial Court and the son of the distinguished Swedish master Johann Joachim Grecke. A number of very fine firearms by him are preserved in the State Hermitage, St Petersburg.

**A RARE CASED PAIR OF FRENCH 40 BORE PERCUSSION RIFLED PERCUSSION TARGET PISTOLS WITH ENCLOSED LOCKS BY LE PAGE ARQER DU ROI, NO. 3425 DATED 1833 with octagonal swamped sighted barrels signed in gold between leafy fronds and numbered `1` and `2` respectively, stamped with the barrelsmith`s mark of Nicholas Noël Boutet (Neue Støckel 100) beneath and with the serial number, case-hardened breeches inlaid with platinum lines, pierced platinum plugs, engraved case-hardened breech tangs stamped inside with the serial numbers and the dates, numbered in gold en suite with the barrels, decorated with pairs of fronds and fitted with standing back-sights, side-hammer actions enclosed within the stock and fitted with engraved case-hardened side-hammers, figured walnut half-stocks carved with a shell design over the fore-ends, and panels of chequering over the butts, the latter fitted with ebony caps carved with laurel fruit and foliage (one small chip), engraved case-hardened spurred trigger-guards and trigger-plates, silver barrel bolt escutcheons, and no provision for a ramrod: in their original brass-bound fitted case veneered in rosewood on the outside and lined with plum velvet (the veneer cracked, the lining faded and with areas of wear), complete with its accessories including brass powder-flask, and numbered bullet mould, 37.5cm; 14 3/4in The enclosed lock and the style of engraving is very similar to the work of Louis Perrin Lepage recorded in Vienna and Paris circa 1823-65. Perrin-Lepage exhibited in the Paris exhibition of 1823 and is recorded working from 1830 at 7 rue de l` Echelle. He married Henry Lepage`s daughter and was granted a patent together with his brother-in-law for breech-loading pistols in 1832.

He worked in Germany and Vienna, including a period with Johann Contriner. He became Hofbüchsenmacher in 1852 and made twelve guns, six double rifles and three single rifles for the Emperor Franz Josef I.

Joseph Manton and son are recorded at this address circa 1834-8. It is likely that these pistols were refurbished by him there, having been made around twelve years earlier.
