Struck from an early state of the obverse die, scattered marks, otherwise better than very fine.

Trifling brush marks, otherwise good extremely fine and attractively toned.

Trifling marks and traces of a tin or silver wash remaining, otherwise better than extremely fine and exceedingly rare. ex S H Hamer Collection,Glendinings, 26-28 November 1930, lot 405 (part) There was an example in the Spink sale, 24 January 2008 (lot 142), in which it was stated that the specimen offered was believed to be unique. To date, five specimens have been traced, one currently residing in a museum collection. Pye did note this variety, as he had information of an example in Young’s collection, but it was not illustrated in his catalogue, nor did he provide further details.

DANL. & JNO. BOULTER ..*.. (Atkins p. 157, 54; D&H Norfolk 54). Trifling brush marks, otherwise nearly mint state and attractively toned.

Light hairlines and contact marks, otherwise nearly as made with reflective surfaces, extremely rare, perhaps only six specimens struck in silver.
