A lacquered hide Dhal, 43cm in diameter, the black lacquer ground applied with four large foliate form silver plated bosses, further applied with three small foliate shaped steel bosses with a centered horse shoe form, two looped leather handles to the rear. Crazing to lacquer.
A late 17th Century English silver mounted hunting dirk or dagger, 37.5cm flattened diamond section two-stage blade, pierced silver scroll work crossguard with dog's head quillons, the central panel further decorated with female heads in either corner, reeded grip with foliate form silver pommel cap, contained in its silver mounted leather wrapped wooden scabbard, decorated to match. Circa 1680.
Two hall marked silver sgian-dubh, the first with 18.5cm fullered blade with faceted back edge, grey stained, characteristic carved wooden hilt decorated with basket weave, the pommel set with a stone, contained in its pierced Celtic strap work mounted leather scabbard, the upper mount hallmarked Edinburgh 1900 and bearing the maker's mark of TJ, together with another similar, later, also of silver and bearing maker's mark T.E. The former with pinned repair to pommel. (2)
A scarce pair of 20-bore silver mounted flintlock Queen Anne Coaching or Carriage Pistols by James Freeman, circa 1720, 3.75inch two-stage ring-turned tapering barrels, faceted breeches, each breech panel decorated with geometric borders and stylised stars, signed JAMES FREEMAN to the underside and LONDON on the top flat, border engraved bolted actions, the cocks decorated to match, thick wooden stocks carved about the barrel tangs, vacant ornate silver escutcheon, scarce long-eared silver butt caps decorated with strapwork, foliate sprays and classical busts, pierced ornate silver sideplates. 11.5inches over all. A 20-bore silver mounted flintlock holster pistol by Edward North, 8inch slightly swamped brass barrel engraved ROYAL EXCHANGE LONDON on the top flat, border engraved signed bevelled lock, full stock, fore-end cracked, full silver mounts to include grotesque mask butt cap, pierced stand of arms sideplate, foliate engraved trigger guard with scallop terminal, ramrod pipes, later horn capped wooden ramrod.
