A Third Reich “Hermann Meyer” type Luftwaffe tropical peaked cap as worn by the Afrika Korps, of pale buff twill with wool embroidered cloth eagle and silver wire cockade and wings, matching twill chinstrap and neck flap secured by 3 grey metal buttons, the red lining with indistinct circular ink stamp having eagle in the centre. GC (squashed flat).
A German oval silver plated nickel silver salver, the centre engraved “Deutsche-Zeppelin- Reederei, GMBH”, over the device of the DZR, with eagle above and swastika below, the reverse stamped with the name of the “Wurtt. Metallw. Fabrik, Geislingen-Steige”, and “Schwaghof.Bad Salzuflen”. GC (slightly dented, plating worn)
A pair of 50 bore cannon barrelled flintlock boxlock pocket pistols by Edge, c 1760, 8” overall, turn off barrels 2¼”, with London proofs, the signed frames having stepped sideplates engraved with scrolls and trophies, and with sliding trigger guard safeties, the rounded bulbous butts inlaid with silver wire scrolls and with plain steel buttcaps. WO & basically GC (frizzens and one jaw screw replaced, metalwork worn).
An interesting early 19th century Indian silver mounted linstock, for igniting the powder in the touch hole of a cannon from a safe distance, wooden haft, swollen towards central grip section (covering missing), long ornamental studded silver front section with flattened ornamental tip and double hook to hold the glowing wick, long segmented back section with beaded bands and knopped weighted end, 31” overall. GC
Queen Victoria Jubilee Institute for Nurses badge “Queen Alexandra’s Committee”, in HM silver (1914) and enamelled (name(?) erased with filed edge, very minor enamel loss); British Red Cross Order of St John bronze badge, and a 1914 star with replacement “slip on” clasp (P.B. A good late 19th century Sudanese sword kaskara, DE blade 35½”, with central fuller for half length and additional double fullers towards forte, the centre of the blade etched with a simple figure of a lion on one side and a butterfly on the other, flared square section crossguard with short langets, sheet silver covered grip in 4 wire banded sections, disc pommel with stud (slightly crushed), in its panelled brown leather scabbard with swollen point, 2 central bands and suspension strap. GC
A .577/450” Martini Henry sporting rifle, 45½” overall, octagonal barrel 29” with military style ramp rearsight, with scroll engraved frame, ring end to cocking lever, and walnut halfstock with semi pistol grip, the wrist with remains of engraved silver band. GWO & FC (heavily worn overall with some damage)
A similar sword, plated blade 32”, by Alcoso, Solingen, the lacquered brass hilt embossed with oak leaves and with lion’s head pommel having red glass eyes, one langet having eagle with outspread wings, the other with vacant oval cartouche, wire bound black plastic covered grip and leather portepee with silver and green acorn, in its black painted scabbard. A 19th century Indian dagger dha, SE blade 7”, DE towards point, with shallow fuller, floral embossed sheet silver lower band to hilt, ivory grip nicely pierced and carved in the form of a standing mythical figure in an ornamental scrollwork “cage”, its monster face protruding to form the pommel (section of scroll work missing from top of “cage”), in its dark wood sheath, the sheet silver locket and chape ensuite with hilt. A Geo V 1897 pattern infantry officer’s sword, plated blade 32½”, by Sanderson Bros & Newbold Ltd, Sheffield, etched with crowned GR cypher in stylized foliate panels, pierced silver plated hilt incorporating crowned GVR cypher, chequered backstrap, wirebound brown leather grip, with leather knot, in its leather FS scabbard (AF); and a rattan cane swagger stick, with wrist strap, of Giggleswick School OTC (AF); with details of owner, Capt J.D.
