Three pairs of French travelling knives in fitted shagreen cases, comprising: an 18th century pair, one knife with gold blade, the other probably steel, the handles possibly later, the collars and terminals decorated with a ropework band, approx. 19.5cm long; an 18th century French pair with imitation bloodstone handles, c.1780, one blade silver gilt, the other metal, both knives with gold collars and terminals, approx. 19.4cm long; and a pair with mother of pearl handles and metal mounts (unmarked), one knife with steel blade, the other with copper-coloured metal blade, approx. 18.4cm long (3)Condition Report: Knives with red handles: handles are slightly different in colour and polish. Possibly imitation hardstone. Metal knife with rust and discolouration to blade. Pin through terminal to this knife. Some general scratching and nicking to blades. Some discolouration to handle of knife with gold blade. Small solder lines visible to end of gold blade (handle end). Some staining, small repairs and general wear to case. An 18th century Dutch silver spoon, Amsterdam, 1743, maker's mark indistinct, the figural terminal designed as Charity (Caritas) to a shaped stem and bowl with plain rat tail to reverse, initials and later crest to reverse of bowl, 17.8cm long, together with a smaller spoon with twisted stem and figural terminal, marks indistinct, probably Dutch, 14.4cm long, and two spoons with gilded bowls, one with figural terminal and twisted stem, 18.2cm long, the other with part of stem and terminal deficient, total weight approx. 4.1oz (4)Condition Report: Spoon with gilt bowl and stem with figural terminal: stamped with hatchet mark to bowl and unidentified mark HF beneath crossed key(?). An 18th century Dutch silver sauce boat, Nijmegen, with unidentified maker's mark, of heavy gauge with a wide pouring lip and shaped sides, the body raised on three feet to a double scroll handle, approx. 21.5cm long and 11.4cm high (inc. handle), approx. weight 15.5ozCondition Report: The sauceboat is in good overall condition commensurate with age. However, it does show some signs of wear and damage. Some general surface scratching, nicking and pitting noted. Some tarnish spots. A horizontal solder line is visible to the interior of the sauce boat just below the upper handle join. Some splitting noted along this line (to the interior only). Split to the upper handle join on both sides so it has detached from the body of the sauceboat. Splits forming along two of the feet (where they have been cast in two parts and then joined). Good solid gauge.
A Queen Anne Irish silver bowl, Dublin, 1708, Thomas Bolton, of plain circular form, the bowl raised on a shallow circular foot and engraved with diamond-shaped crest, the underside inscribed with scratch weight 7=16, approx. 10.3cm dia., 6.5cm high, approx. weight 4.2ozFootnotes: Some surface scratching, nicking and pitting noted. Heavier nicking to the inside of the bowl. Some dark staining, tarnish and general marking to the inside also. Some marking may be permanent. Some patches around the rim. Some wear to engraving on the side of the bowl. The bowl is steady on its foot. The sides of the bowl are quite thin and flexible - possible erasures.
