A William IV silver cylindrical shaving brush, pin handle, engraved with the crest of Francis Eyre of Hassop Hall (1794-1833) the self-styled 7th Earl of Newburgh, surmounted by an earl's coronet, 16.5cm long, Archibald Douglas, London 1832 On the death of Anthony Radclyffe, 5th Earl of Newburgh (1757-1814), the earldom reverted to the descendants of Lady Ann Clifford (?-1793), the eldest daughter from the first marriage of Charlotte Radclyffe, 3rd Countess of Newburgh (c. 1694-1755) in her own right. It was assumed Lady Ann's direct descendant Vincenzo, 6th Prince of Giustiniani (1762-1826) could not assume the title being an Italian prince. Therefore Francis Eyre of Hassop (1762-1827), as the son of another Francis Eyre (1732-1804) and Lady Mary Radclyffe (?-1798), herself the daughter of the third countess by her second marriage and the sister of the James Radclyffe, 4th Earl of Newburgh (1725-1786), assumed and styled himself as the 6th Earl of Newburgh, as did his heirs until the second half of the 19th century.
