A substantial silver-plated Challenge Trophy Association Football punch bowl, mid 20th Century The bowl with three antler handles, gilt interior, with initial U.M.W of A.Challenge Trophy Association Football District 18, with a figure of a footballer holding a ball aloft, diameter 37cm, height 26cm.
A George II walnut silver table, raised and shaped outline, the top with herringbone stringing and an ivory star rosette to the centre, plain frieze on cabriole legs with scroll embellishment to the knees, pointed toes, each with a herringbone section, oak lining to the carcass under section, 69cm x 46cm, height 67cm. Provenance; Private client, Lord Hay, M Harris& Sons, London, receipt dated 1st June 1932, purchased for the client from Christies May 24th 1932, Bulstrode Park. The sale date seems to indicate that the lot was acquired on behalf of Lord Hay from the celebrated sale of fine furniture belonging to Sir John Frenchville Ramsden, 6th Bt. (1877-1958), the grandson of the 12th Duke of Somerset, at Bulstrode Park, Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. Bulstrode Park, which was owned by the Duke of Somerset from circa 1809, being rebuilt in its present form in 1865 by Edward Adolphus Seymour, 12th Duke of Somerset, (1804-1885). When the 12th Duke died there was no male heir so the house and estate passed to his third daughter, Lady Helen Guendolen Ramsden and thence to Sir John Frenchville Ramsden.
A Tortoiseshell and mother of pearl etui, mid 19th Century, slope front, mother of pearl inlay with branches and a bird, (one section missing), red silk interior including sterling silver thimble, a white metal cased tape measure, a French silver and parcel gilt needle case and Edwardian silver button hook, a white metal bodkin and an ivorine memo board, 11cm. Provenance: with a receipt from Frederick H North, 99 Crawford Street, London, dated 19th August 1937.
