†An officer’s lance cap of the Bedfordshire Imperial Yeomanry (1901), top of skull in black patent leather with gilt leaf ornaments on the corners, upper sides of skull in ribbed blue cloth, with gilt metal strips on four angles, gilt metal gimp boss with plain ball button in centre. Gilt metal band around centre of cap, peak of leather with metal trim, the badge consists of usual gilt rayed type with a silver wreath of laurel and oak spray surmounted by a post 1902 crown. In the centre the silver badge of the regiment being an eagle with a castle on its breast. Black swan feather plume with gilt socket, ring chinchain. Very Good Condition Plate 15

A good mid 18th century silver mounted “Queen Anne style” 18 bore cannon barrelled flintlock boxlock side action pistol, by John Harman, London, 12½” overall, turn off barrel 5½”, breech engraved “Iohn Harman”, the underneath of the breech engraved “London” and with London and maker’s proofs, with swan neck cock, “L” shaped frizzen spring, and square back sliding trigger guard safety; the dark walnut bulbous butt having shell carving around the breech tang and teardrop carving behind the lock and around the sideplate; silver mounts comprising openwork sideplate with acanthus leaves, waisted foliate escutcheon with grotesque mask and engraved with crest, and butt cap embossed with flower head, scrolls, and pattern radiating loops. Good Working Order and Condition (dark patina to metalwork, the butt has old fracture above the lock and a chip below the sideplate). Plate 60

Scott, Lieutenant 1920, Brigadier 1948; the only visible part Hallmark is on the pouch badge, “B&P” (Bent and Parker, Birmingham), Queen’s head and date letter for 1883 (case not opened). An unusual late 18th century central European 12 bore flintlock sporting rifle with left hand lock, 55½” overall, 2 stage barrel 41” secured by 3 flat wedges, the octagonal breech stamped with crowned shield mark on the top flat, partly obscured maker’s mark on right side, and with single standing rearsight; plain rounded lock having swan neck cock and roller on frizzen spring; plain walnut fullstock having no provision for ramrod, fore end being of flat 5 sided section with horn fore end cap, flat sided butt with cheek piece and velvet pad; bronze mounts comprise long trigger guard with spurred grip, housing double set triggers, shaped flat sideplate and butt plate with scalloped side pieces, all decorated with engraved lines and trophies of arms; the stock also inset with silver wire initials “T.B” behind the breech tang. Good Working Order and Untouched Condition, the lock and barrel clean (some wear to velvet cheek pad) Plate 49

A cased 60 bore pump up walking stick air cane, 36¾” overall, barrel 17¾” with screw in interchangeable 80 bore rifled barrel; the body with black lacquered finish, bun shaped horn knob with German silver escutcheon and screw on brass ferrule (originally with ramrod attached). Good Condition and appears to be in working order; in a purpose made fitted wooden box with pump, spanner for unscrewing the valve unit, cocking key, cleaning rod (originally attached to the ferrule), and a bullet mould. Generally Good Condition (the case worn, some surface rust to the pump). Plate 62
