And a collection of badges and awards to include a 15ct and 9ct gold award 'Quadragesimus Secundus' presented to W.Bros. W.Robinson. R.M. 1931-2, another similar gold award, and a collection of enamelled silver and other badges.
A CASED GOLD NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF IRELAND PRIZE MEDAL. An 18ct hallmarked Birmingham and Sheffield assay marks, year date 1914, 50mm diameter and weighing 62 grams. Very ornate obverse with the University of Ireland badge in the centre, on chequered background with Shamrocks inset. The National University of Ireland Veritati and Fir Fer , also the date MDCCCCV111 below. The reverse has The Dr & Mrs W A Browne medal for colloquial knowledge of French & German. Won by Violet Anna Alicia Stockley Autumn 1914. The fitted case bears the name, West & Son, The Kings Jewellers, 102 &103 Grafton Street, Dublin. See later lot for her fathers? silver awards. A CASED GOLD UNIVERSITY OF DUBLIN PRIZE MEDAL. A unmarked (tested at 18ct or above) gold prize medallion, awarded by The Philosophical Society of the University of Dublin. Founded AD 1854 obverse with the University Arms and shamrocks decoration, of some 39mm in diameter. The reverse has engraved within a wreath, C E Osborne Oratory 1880. Awarded by The Philosophical Society University Dublin, founded in 1854. The Arms of the University are backed by shamrocks, etc. The reverse is engraved C E Osborne Composition 1880, in a fitted case with Woodhouse, 11 Harrington Street, Dublin inset. Weight 31.6 grams. SILVER RATHMINES SCHOOL etc PRIZE MEDALS. 1. A cased silver Trinity College Dublin medal, 51mm diameter. No provision for a mounting ring, in its originally labelled Woodhouse, 11 Harrington St, Dublin fitted case. The medal has a Queen Elizabeth 1 obverse, with COLL.SS.ET.INDIVID. TRIN. REG. ELIZABETHAE. JUXTA. DVBL. 1591. The initials WW and JW are evident. The obverse reads LIT. REGENT. FELICITER.EXCULTIS, with the College Arms and shamrocks etc. Engraved to Carolus E Osborne 1881. Weight 62.2 grams. 2. A 46mm diameter silver Trinity College medal with mounting ring present, again with the College Arms of a Castle, Lion, Harp, Portcullis, Tudor Rose etc on the obverse. Engraved on the reverse is Oratory C E Osborne 1879. 3. A 44mm diameter silver prize medal, lacking its suspension ring. Rathmines School Rev Dr Benson Headmaster Easter 1870, engraved on the reverse. Also Ora Et Labora, Holy Scripture, Charles Edw Osborne Angelic figure obverse with Thy Word Is A Lamp Onto My Feet And Light Unto My Path. Weight 31.1 grams. 4. A LARGE CASED SILVER SPORTING AWARD 'ELMS CC'. A large silver sporting award in a damaged but repairable case, by E Tyler Medallist London. Silver top and bottom floral bars, on a blue and white striped ribbon. The ornate obverse of cross form, with inset spear heads. The reverse engraved Elms C C. 5 Miles Championship won by Sid Bennett 1892 and a bronzed Motorcycle award 25mm diameter, with engraved reverse. A DENARIUS OF JULIA DOMNA A silver Denarius of Julia Domna 193-217 AD, second wife of Septimus Severus. Mother of Caracalla and Geta, in 217 after Geta had murdered her son Caracalla she committed suicide. Julia Avgvsta obverse with Pietas Pvblica reverse. 3.2 gms.
VARIOUS COINAGE & BRONZE MEDALLION including QV Crown 1894, LVIII, a cased Silver Jubilee silver Crown (Royal Mint), Maria Therasa Thaler in plastic slipcase, QV Half Crown 1887, Edward VII Half Crown 1902, and various other 19th and 20thc coinage in mixed condition. Also with a bronze medallion, marked Mahomed's Gymnasium. *Sake Dean Mahomed was an Indian traveller, surgeon and entrepreneur, he introduced Indian cuisine and shampoo baths to Europe, he was also the first Indian to publish a book in English. This medallion seems to refer to the Gymnasium he built in Brighton.
