After briefly living with Wallis in Baltimore, her mother subsequently was involved in encouraging Wallis to divorce her first husband Spencer and they remained firm friends throughout their lives.After Lelia's father died, her mother travelled with the children in Europe before returning to America and marrying Lieutenant Colonel George Barrett. Barnett was appointed Major General Commandant of the Marine Corps in 1914 for a term of four years. The address on the compact suggests that it belonged to Lelia whils
