A Japanese maki-e tebako, or other, box and cover; with kuro-nuri interiors and base, decorated in a variety of techniques [including okibirame] with the sun rising over a mountainous landscape with clouds, pine trees and bold floral designs. The interior base with an original, glued or otherwise attached, summary of the box by Shozo Kato of Osaka, and dated 18-xii-1907. Kato san's appraisal states: 'Tebako, hand box. Decorated with Cherry blossoms in gold lacquer, and rising sun in red lacquer. Partly written in fine silver lac. Made by an artist of Kajikawa School about 1780...fine specimen/judged by S.
