Andy Warhol 1928 Pittsburgh - 1987 New York You are in. 1967. Multiple. Silberfarbe, Coca-Cola Flasche und Flaschenträger. Auf der Flasche monogrammiert. Unikat aus einer Serie von 100. Maße gesamt: 20,5 x 21 x 13,5 cm (8 x 8,2 x 5,3 in). [SM]. • Andy Warhol ist die Ikone der Popkultur. • Die Coca Cola Flasche als ein Symbol des American Way of Life macht Warhol in seiner typisch ironischen Bildsprache zum Kunstobjekt. • Jedes Werk der Serie 'You are In' ist durch den manuellen Farbauftrag ein Unikat. PROVENIENZ: Aus dem Nachlass des Künstlers. Sotheby' s, New York, The Warhol Collection, 23.4. Monogrammed on the bottle. Unique object from a series of 100. Total dimensions: 20.5 x 21 x 13.5 cm (8 x 8.2 x 5.3 in). [SM]. • Andy Warhol is the icon of pop culture. • With his typical ironic imagery Warhol turns the Coca Cola bottle as a symbol of the American way of life into an art object. • Each work in the 'You are In' series is unique due to the manual application of the paint. PROVENANCE: From the artist's estate. Sotheby' s, New York, The Warhol Collection, April 23 - May 3, 1988 (with a label). 'That's what's so fantastic about this country: In America it has basically always been the case that the richest consumer buys more or less the same products as does the poorest. You see Coke bottles on TV and you know that the president and Liz Taylor drink Coke, too - just like you! Coca-Cola always was and always will be Coca-Cola, and no money in the world could get you a Cola that's better than the one the bum on the street corner drinks.' Gabriele Münter 1877 Berlin - 1962 Murnau Frauenporträt. 1911. Öl auf Malpappe. Links unten signiert und datiert. Verso von fremder Hand bezeichnet 'M13541.'. 69,5 x 50,5 cm (27,3 x 19,8 in). • Aus dem Jahr der Gründung des 'Blauen Reiters', 1911. • Gabriele Münter ist eine facettenreiche Porträtmalerin. • Zeugnis von Münters feinem Gefühl, Persönlichkeiten einzufangen. • Über viele Jahre in der Sammlung Herbert und Natalie Kirshner, New York. PROVENIENZ: Sammlung Herbert und Natalie Kirshner, New York (bis 2001). Privatsammlung Großbritannien. LITERATUR: Lempertz, Köln, Juni 1969, Los 547, Tafel 18 (hier als Selbstbildnis der Künstlerin betitelt). Ketterer Kunst, 19.5.2001, Auktion 255, Los 10 m. Abb. 1911. Oil on board. Lower left signed and dated. Verso inscribed 'M13541.' by a hand other than that of the artist. 69.5 x 50.5 cm (27.3 x 19.8 in). • From 1911, the year the 'Blaue Reiter' was founded. • Gabriele Münter is a very multifaceted portrait painter. • Document of Münter's sensitive portrait talent. • Part of the collection of Herbert and Natalie Kirshner, New York, for many years. PROVENANCE: Collection Herbert and Natalie Krishner, New York (until 2001) Private collection Great Britain. LITERATURE: Lempertz, Cologne, June 1969, lot 547, plate 18 (here titled as self-portrait of the artist) Ketterer Kunst, May 19, 2001, auction 255 lot 10 with illu. Gabriele Münter probably painted our portrait in 1911, at a time when she reached the first zeniththroughin the intensive, groundbreaking collaboration with her partner Wassily Kandinsky, and with Alexej von Jawlensky and Marianne von Werefkin. Werefkin's portrait, painted by Münter in 1909, is an incunabula of portrait art before the First World War. During the heyday of the artistic development towards the 'Blaue Reiter', Münter painted, next to family members, mostly people from her immediate surroundings, artists from the extended circle of the 'Blaue Reiter'. Afew self-portraits were also made, indoor scenes with Kandinsky and Erma Bossi or Jawlensky at the table. The majority of those portrayed from 1908 onwards are known by name, such as 'Marianne von Werefkin', 'Fräulein Mathilde' or 'Olga von Hartmann'. Our portrait hereshows a young woman on a chair, sitting a little to the side, and wearing a simple everyday dress, a high-necked vest with silver buttons, a white collar and a light blue apron. Her face appears natural and without make-up, the thick hair casual and not done in any sort of hairstyle. Münter put particularly striking focus on the right upper arm leaning on the side of the backrest, and placed the forearm from the elbow to the casually loosehand with fine, long limbs almost in the center of the view. Gabriele Münter was fascinated by this hand; with this relaxed posture she not only describes one of the characteristics of the sitter, it seems as if a familiar person sat across from the artist. Still, who is thiswoman which evades the look of the painter with her natural, rather serious, youthful grace? You can feel the concentration and the moment in which the composition of the portrait was created, the artist focused on the woman's face, while payingno less attention to the clothes, but swiftly outlines the room with just a few quick brushstrokes. Around 1910 Gabriele Münter painted a series of portraits, mainly of women in more or less pronounced frontality with characteristic faces. In direct comparison, it seems, the artist deals intensively with this stranger who presumably came from her neighborhood in Murnau. [MvL/EH] Called up: December 11, 2020 - ca. 17.15 h +/- 20 min. 1954 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn 4½-Litre SaloonRegistration no. 260 AMXChassis no. 5P3GOdometer reading: TBCMoT expiry date: exempt*The first Rolls-Royce with 'factory' bodywork*Offered from the estate of the late John Hodgson (Alpine Eagle)*An older restoration*Recent front brakes overhaulIntroduced in 1949, the Silver Dawn is notable as the first Rolls-Royce to feature 'factory' bodywork, this 'standard steel' coachwork having debuted on the Mark VI Bentley in 1946. Better suited to the owner driver market, the Silver Dawn was produced alongside the Mark VI and the coachbuilt Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith, albeit in far fewer numbers. A separate chassis was retained, the same basic design being built in three different wheelbase lengths, while other noteworthy features included independent front suspension, hydraulic front brakes and a new 4,257cc six-cylinder engine (enlarged to 4,566cc for 1951) incorporating inlet-over-exhaust valve-gear. A much needed improvement to the standard bodywork arrived in mid-1952 in the shape of an enlarged boot together with associated changes to the rear wings and suspension, subsequent models being known as the E-Series Silver Dawn and R-Type Bentley. An older restoration, this E-Series Silver Dawn is offered from the estate of the late John Hodgson, proprietor of the renowned classic car restoration company, Alpine Eagle. As one would expect, the Rolls-Royce has been carefully maintained during John's ownership and runs and drives very well. Recent works include replacing the headlining and carpet set; re-colouring the trim; and overhauling the front brakes. The car is offered with a V5C Registration certificate and a history file. Handsomely finished in Opalescent Silver Blue with black leather interior, the E-Type is rated as either good or very good in almost every respect. The car comes with a history file containing the V5C document; maintenance records; expired MoTs; and a Jaguar Heritage Certificate. Combining the stylistic purity of the original with the superior 4.2-litre engine, the 'Series 1 4.2' is considered by many to be the most desirable E-Type of them all.
