A finely decorated and bound illuminated Address album presented to the future 5th Marquess of Devonshire from the tenantry of the Kilwarlin and Castlereagh Estates on his coming of age, 1865, 22 thick album leaves, the first six leaves with richly decorated illuminated decoration in colours, gilt and silver incorporating nine inset watercolour views of the Hillsborough and Castlereagh estates, surrounded by the address in black gothic text with decorative initals and capitals beginning 'May it please your Lordship, we the undersigned, Tennants of the Marquis of Downshire on the Kilwarlin and Castlereagh Estates, beg leave most cordially to congratulate your Lordship on the happy occasion of your attaining your majority...', the address followed by a single page reply by the Marquis thanking his tenants for the address and signed beneath in ink, the following 16 leaves containing numerous signatures and names of the tennants of the estates, moire silk endpapers, orig. sumptuous maroon and blue morocco by Marcus Ward & Co., richly gilt decorated with scrollwork and filigree decoration, central recessed panel to upper cover, brass clasps (one loose) and dentelles, dimensions: 313 x 254 x 70 mm See illustration inside rear cover of this catalogue.
