CONDITION REPORT During the campaign large allied losses were suffered around 28,600 British and 30,500 French. The Machine Gun Corps was a war raised unit and was not in existence until the great war and was disbanded in 1922, but over its short existence over 200,000 soldiers served in its ranks, almost all transferred from other infantry regiments and corps and of those 16,575 lost their lives and thus the Machine Gun Corps became known as 'The Suicide Club'.
