Stands well on a flat surface with just a very, very minor wobble. Presentation engraving clear and crisp. Lining in good condition with no obvious signs of wear. Wooden underside a little warped but still fitting well to the base. A minor crease to both ends of the base, easier to see under reflected light, together with a minor crease to the front and back at the base, towards the right hand side.

A George II silver tea caddy and matching sugar box, each with mark of Samuel Herbert & Company, London 1750, of rectangular bombé form, lavishly decorated with repoussé foliage, scrolls and buildings around 2 cartouches, one engraved with the crest of COLLETON the other with the arms of COLLETON impaling JENNINGS, detachable friction fitting cover similarly decorated with bird and boy finials, raised on four shell and scroll feet, 16.9ozt gross (2) The armorial bearings undoubtedly commemorate the marriage of James Edward Colleton (circa 1709 - 1790), of Haines Hill, Berkshire and of Barbados and his second wife, Francis Jennings (1732 -1805). James and Francis were married at the Parish Church of St Martin in the Field within the Liberty of the City of Westminster, Middlesex on the 1st March 1754. James was the eldest son of John Colleton of Haines Hill and Barbados and his wife, Elizabeth Ernle, whilst Francis was the only daughter of Philip Jennings, of Duddleston, Shropshire and his second wife, Dorothy Clarke. James sat in the House of Commons as the Member of Parliament for Lostwithel (1747 - 68) and for St Mawes (1772 - 75). His great grandfather was Sir John Colleton, the 1st Baronet (styled of London). The baronetcy was created in 1661 as a reward for Sir John’s support for the Royalist cause during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. The baronetcy fell into extinction on the death of Sir Robert Augustus William Colleton, the 9th Baronet in 1935. Caddy:Body - Some pinholes, mainly on the decoration to the top and bottom of the cartouches. Engraving a little rubbed, but hallmark easily readable. Two of the feet have been pushed up slightly, so the caddy wobbles a little when on a flat surface.Cover - One or two pinholes, particularly to the edge of the scroll decoration. Boy finial pushed in a little. Locating flange a bit out of shape. A little loose with on the body Box:Body - Engraving a little rubbed, but hallmark easily readable. A very minor wobble when on a flat surface.Cover - Boy finial pushed in a little with a minor resultant split. A little loose when on the body.

A Victorian silver novelty vinaigrette in the form of a book, mark of Edward Smith, Birmingham 1846, with ribbed convex 'spine', decorated all over with chequerboard engine turned engraving, part marked piano hinged cover with engraved rectangular cartouche, gilded interior with pierced and hinged grille, suspension loop to the top, 3.5 x 2.5cm, 0.6oztOverall in good condition with no obvious signs of repair. Some surface scratches and minor dents and nicks as to be expected and commensurate with age and use. Hallmarks a little worn but still readable. Hinges in good order and both covers open and close well. Some staining to the interior.

A 20th century French metalwares silver box, by Nisa Chevènement, Paris, Minerva head 2nd standard mark for 800/1000 standard silver, of D shaped form, sides plain and polished, piano hinged cast cover featuring a relief study of a reclining female nude, signed NISA, simple thumbpiece to the edge, 11 x 4cm, 7ozt Provenance: Collection of the late Sir Georg and Lady Solti Nisa Chevènement is a French Postwar & Contemporary artist. She was raised in Egypt and, following her education there, studied at the School of Fine Arts in Cairo. She left Egypt for France in 1965, completing her artistic education in the workshops of Paris.She has exhibited all over the world and is probably best known for her sculptures of the human form. This example is one of only three silver boxes she has made, and the only one to use this particular model.

A George III silver tooth powder box, mark of Richard Lockwood, London 1800, of simple and plain rectangular form, piano hinged across the centre with two part marked covers, peg handle to one end, 9 x 2.5cm, 1.6oztPrior to the use of toothbrushes and the development of toothpaste in the early 19th century, tooth powder was used for cleaning the teeth. A wet finger was dipped in the powder and then rubbed across the teeth, before rinsing with water.Tooth powders were based on three or four components: abrasives such as chalk, orris root, heavy magnesium carbonate or cuttlefish bone; antiseptics and detergents, for example powdered hard soap and borax; and astringents which could be the tannins found in cinchona bark, bayberry leaves, essence of sassafras, and, very commonly, tincture of myrrh. Aromatic substances were often added as breath sweeteners, common ones being cardamom, cloves, peppermint, oil of lemon and aniseed.This example has two compartments, presumably to hold two different flavours. Recipes for tooth powder were zealously guarded by their creators.

Chick & Sons Ltd., London 1970, in the Neoclassical style, each stepped square base decorated with repoussé foliate swags, tapering column and campana shaped sconce similarly decorated with part marked detachable wax pan, 10 x 10cm at the base, 25cm high, 19.4ozt gross (2)Overall in good condition with no obvious signs of repair. Some minor surface scratches and wax residue, as to be expected and commensurate with use. Hallmarks are clear and crisp.Wax pans to both a good fit. One has a minor wobble when on a flat surface, the other stands firm but leans very, very slightly.

Hallmark a bit rubbed but still readable, engraving clear and readable. One or two very, very minor dents to the barometer side top edges.Timepiece - Winds satisfactorily. Integral key. Ticks for one or two seconds, then stops. Hands move freely in both directions, but lacking the hand adjusting key. Barometer - untested

A George II silver meat platter, maker's mark lost, London 1749, of oval scalloped form with gadrooned border, the rim engraved with the arms of WATSON impaling COPLEY, 50 x 37cm, 71.2oztThese armorial bearings undoubtedly commemorate the marriage of Sir Charles Watson (1751 - 1844), the 1st Baronet of Fulmer, Buckinghamshire and Juliana Copley (1755 - 1834). Charles and Juliana were married at the Parish Church of St George, Hanover Square within the Liberty of the City of Westminster, Middlesex on the 16th July 1789. Charles was the only son of Vice Admiral Charles Watson, Royal Navy and his wife, Rebecca Buller, whilst Juliana was the daughter of Sir Joseph Copley the 1st Baronet of Sprotbrough, Yorkshire and his wife, Mary Buller. Charles was created a baronet by King George II at the age of 8 on account and in remembrance of the eminent services of his father, Vice Admiral Watson, who died at Calcutta on the 16th August 1757 aged 43 whilst in command of His Majesty’s Naval Forces in the East Indies. Charles died at Wratting Park, Cambridgeshire and is buried at the Parish Church of St Andrew's, West Wratting.
