DU MAURIER DAPHNE: (1907-1989) British Author. T.L.S., Daphne, one page, 8vo, Kilmarth, Par, Cornwall, 31st October 1977, to Jesse Lasky. Du Maurier refers to a mutual acquaintance named Martyn who visited her for lunch, commenting that she thought he was 'a very nice lad terribly eager about everything' and adding 'apparently he had met me some years ago when I was on holiday in Crete, but he must have been a schoolboy then, and it rang no bell at all!'. The author further writes 'It's a bore for you having to wait for the Vivien Leigh book until next September. Printers take such ages. I shall be delighted to read it in proof but can't promise a quote, because once I start this so many people will want me to do the same. U.S. publishers, I fear, are the worst!'.
