Silvered skull with brass acanthus leaf band and a brass cruciform base supporting fluted silvered spike with black horsehair plume. To the front, a bi-metal crowned Garter resting in thistle sprays with four part title scroll below, centrally a stylised Thistle star. Two brass rosehead boss’s support a replacement velvet lined silver chinchain. The interior with leather sweatband. Skull with some minor dents. GC

Life Guards Officer’s Helmet. 1902-1952 Period.A good post 1901 example. Skull of German silver decorated with gilt brass laurel and oak leaf design. Gilt rose pattern ear bosses support a gilt brass velvet backed chin chain. To front, helmet plate of regulation pattern, surmounted by a King’s Crown. To top of the helmet a gilt and silver spike supports the white Horse hair plume, this complete with a gilt boss. Complete with original leather lining, edged with crimson cloth. Overall GC.

Sussex Yeomanry Officer’s Helmet.An outstanding example of the 1871 pattern helmet, with silvered skull, mounted with acanthus leaf decoration. To the front the regimental helmet plate the centre a frosted silver regimental device within a title strap “Sussex Yeomanry”. Two rose head bosses support a interlinked leather backed chin chain. The crown is with spike supporting a yellow horsehair plume with gilt rose fitting. The interior is with quilted cotton lining. The helmet remains in very good clean condition. Please note the regimental pattern plume should be yellow over dark blue. It is interesting to note that tis helmet and yellow plume matches the example illustrated in Headdress of the British Army Yeomanry by W.Y. Carman 1970 and may possibly be the helmet illustrated.

Worcestershire Yeomanry Officer’s Busby.A late and fine example. Black sable fur with scarlet bag trimmed with silver Russia braid and gimp button. A triple row of silver cord around body and oval gimp boss to front. Thirteen-tongued headband of pale roan leather and crimson lining tooled with manufacturer’s details of Hawkes Ltd., 1, Savile Row. Complete with white metal corded chin-chain on black leather backing and scarlet plume of egret over vulture feathers with white metal socket. Near VGC Hawkes Ltd. moved from Piccadilly to Savile Row in 1912. The Wiltshire Yeomanry wore a busby of similar description but with red lining to the chin-chain

Napoleonic War Period Royal Anglesey Fusiliers Officer’s Coatee.A rare example of scarlet melton cloth, with Royal blue facings to the cuffs and stand collar, the latter decorated with two square loops of silver button mounted with a regimental button of Prince of Wales’s feathers and regimental title. The slash cuffs again decorated with square silver loops and buttons. The tails are decorated with false pockets and bullion tail ornaments depicting the Prince of Wales’s feathers. The interior with replacement lining to the body, tails retain original lining but with moth holes. Retaining 42 silver plated regimental buttons by T Shaw, London. The scarlet remains bright, with moth damage to the back, overall remains good. Royal Anglesey Fusiliers was raised in 1792 as a militia regiment associated with the 23rd Foot the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. It was stood down in 1802, only to be re-raised the following year. As a regiment it saw service in Omagh Ireland from 1811 through to 1813 and was finally stood down following the peace of 1814.

The latter retaining “6/V/King’s” shoulder titles. Complete with regimental collar badges and post 1901 white metal general service buttons. Also silver bullion badges of Sergeant chevrons, proficiency stars, Marks Man and Musketry Instructor. The interior with half blanket lining and original tailor’s paper label with name “N Hobbs”. Overall GC scarlet bright.

4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards Officer’s Full Dress Tunic.A fine and scarce example. Scarlet uniform with blue velvet collar, cuffs and edging. One-inch gold Shamrock lace to front and top of collar, Russia braid to collar-seam. Skirt slashes of distinctive regimental pattern, the gold cord edging traced with Russia forming eyes at the corners. Austrian knots to sleeves, plaited gimp shoulder-cords with two rank-stars in silver embroidery. Gilt buttons indented with St Patrick’s Star and regimental title. Good quilted white silk lining. Collar badges absent, otherwise near VGC.

2nd Life Guards Officer’s Full Dress Tunic.A scarce pre-amalgamation Troop Officer’s example. Scarlet cloth with blue velvet collar, cuffs and edging to fronts and skirts. The fronts of the collar bearing patches of oak and bay leaves in gold embroidery. Gauntlet cuffs with embroidered loops and six squares of embroidery to back-skirts. The regimental buttons bear Royal Crest over numeral “2” and flanked by “L” and “G”. 8 such buttons in front, the lower 6 of these being OR’s buttons of same pattern (very old replacements, possibly in service). Fine quilted silk lining. Minor traces of wear, otherwise GC. Attached to the shoulders by ribbon-ties is a fine and massive pair of plaited gold shoulder-cords of the Life Guards each bearing two Garter Star rank badges in silver embroidery and a button of the Life Guards. The right hand cord extends to form an aiguillette with two plain loops and two long plaits terminating in ornate gilt metal tags with worked wire heads, Scarlet lining and attachment ribbons. Among minute differences from 1st Life Guards, there is stitching along the tunic edges (as mentioned in Dress Regulations).

Mounted as originally worn. Private Charles C Humphries landed in France on the 21st August 1914. He later served with the Devonshire Regiment and Labour Corps and was awarded the Silver War Badge.

1872 National Thanksgiving Medal For the Prince of Wales later Edward VII.This silver medal was produced by John Pinches of Oxford Street London. The obverse is embossed “Visit of Her Majesty the Queen to St Paul’s Cathedral 1872”. The reverse “National Thanksgiving for the recovery of his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales Feb XXVII”. Contained in original leather and velvet lined case. Case with some damage. Medal GC. In 1871 the Prince of Wales became gravely ill and close to death suffering from typhoid fever. Recovering a service of thanksgiving was held on the 27th February 1872. See Royal Service Vol II by James Risk, Henry Pownall, David Stanley & John Tamplin Page 53 for an illustration and description of this medal.

Boer War Mounted Infantry / WW1 Gordon Highlanders “Mons” Star Group of Four.Awarded to Private William Munro who saw service in South Africa during the Boer War and would be later after service in France was discharged in the opening months of WW1. Comprising: Queen’s South Africa Medal five clasps, “Cape Colony”, “Orange Free State”, “Trans vaal”, “South Africa 1901”, “South Africa 1902”, “7185 PTE W. MUNROE GORDON HIGHRS M.I.”, 1914 Star, “7185 PTE 1/GORD HIGHRS”, British War Medal, Victory Medal, “7185 PTE GORDONS”. Mounted for display, first medal slack suspension. Private William Munro a native of Nairmshire Scotland enlisted into the Gordon Highlanders on the 31st January 1900. He saw service in South Africa from May 1901 until October 1902. He transfered to the Reserve in 1908 and reengaged in January 1912. At the outbreak of the Great War he landed in France with his Regiment on the 14th August 1914, however his name appeared in the Casualty list of the 20th October 1914. On this day he is noted as returning to the UK and was discharged as unfit for further war service on the 10th November 1914. He was awarded the Silver War Badge.

Pouch belt with Shamrock pattern gold lace on red leather backing, edged with blue velvet. Wavy pattern buckle, tip and slide in white metal. The black leather pouch with gold embroidered oblong to top, and silver flap by J & Co, Birmingham, hallmarked 1901, with floral decoration to the edge and mounted with gilt VR cypher. A waistbelt with lace and edging as for the pouch belt, the oblong frosted gilt plate mounted with EVIIR cypher within shamrock sprays in white metal ... together with a set of regimental gold-laced sword-slings attached to a webbing belt. Scottish Lothian & Berwickshire Yeomanry Victorian Officer’s epaulettes A good scarce pair, each comprising three rows of interlinked gilt chains, within a raised bullion border and raised disc with silver entwined Regimental cypher. Scarlet cloth backing each retaining all four fixing loops. Minor dulling and service wear GC. Became Lothian & Border Horse in 1908.

The silver flap, this with deep engraved floral decoration to the edge. Mounted on the flap, a gilt metal crowned Royal Cypher (part of V absent); mounted on the cypher, a silver Castle of Inniskilling (polished). Black leather pouch with gold bullion line. Floriated ends and belt loops with hallmarks London 1887 ... Accompanied by pouch belt of regimental pattern lace and mounted with London silver 1891, engraved buckle, tip and slide. Overall GC.
