* Walpole Family Archive. A collection of over 250 photographs relating to descendants of the family of Robert Walpole, c. 1870s-1950s, an assorted collection of mostly portraits including studio photographs and snapshots of individual members of Walpole family and related, including cartes-de-visite, cabinet cards, gelatin silver prints, a few with signatures of sitter or photographer studio to mount, the majority mounted on card and including three small snapshot albums, mostly medium to small format. Provenance: From the family of Lieutenant Commander Horace Jeremy Spencer Walpole (1924-2001). Walpole served in the Navy during the Second World War retiring in 1959 to the Farmhouse Hotel, Lower Swell, Gloucestershire, in the 1960s. He subsequently became a science teacher at Oakley Hall School, Cirencester. He was a direct descendant of England’s first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole (1676-1745). (a carton)
