An interesting group of 14 medals awarded to Ernest Bechet, a noted French resistance member, comprising France: Legion of Honour 4th Class; Medaille Militaire; Croix de Guerre 1939-40, with 4 riband palms; Vol. Combatant cross; Resistance Vol Combatants cross; French resistance medal; French War medal with clasps Liberation and France; French resistance medal for those deported; Free French Forces medal; Escaped Prisoner of War medal; French Combatants cross; medal for Rhineland; Ministry of Work medal (reverse engraved E. Bechet 1962); British King’s medal for courage (un-named as issued); together with the set in miniature on a chain. Average for the above VF to GVF (some enamel lacking on Medaille Militaire). Accompanying these awards are: France Legion of Honour Musee silver plated plaque for Andre Ullman, the revers bearing names of eight including E Bechet; AE Deportation Commemorative medallion 1980, un-named, cased; Resistance deportation medallion named to Kathleen Bechet; Paramount Pictures Golden Jubilee plaque, reverse engraved to Ernest Bechet Technical Manager of Paramount European, 1925-1965; silvered medallion “30 anniversaire du retour des deportes 1945-1975” named to Bechet, Mle 77.005 Buchenwald; a cloth armband in French national colours printed with F.F.1 beneath a Cross of Lorraine; a cloth shield shaped badge with bullion cross of Lorraine and two Free French enamel pin back badges. Note: Ernest Bechet, born Lyons in January 1903, had an early career with Paramount Pictures in Paris prior to WWII. At the fall of France he was taken prisoner and deported to Germany. In October 1942 he escaped and joined the French Resistance movement. He, as a Sous Lieutenant, used the name Rebelle and worked with the Marco Polo network in Paris. In June 1944 he was captured by the Gestapo and deported to the Buchenwald concentration camp before repatriation the following May when he returned to the Paramount Pictures company in Paris as Chief Projectionist before working up to Technical Manager from 1955-61

A Third Reich Red Cross officer’s 1938 pattern circular aluminium buckle, the reverse stamped “Ges Gesch” and manufacturer’s number “2” in circle, on a silver brocade belt with black stripes, the leather tongue bearing the stamp of “St Gertrudis Bruderschaft, Dilkrath”. GC the brocade slightly faded).
A Third Reich SS officer’s “Totenkopf” presentation ring, silver coloured, the inside engraved “S Lb A Muller 8.10.42” and facsimile “H Himmler” signature, GC (SS Sturmbannfuhrer August Muller was an early SS member, his SS number being 3030 and his party number 271535. In 1943 he was serving in the SS Race and Settlement Office).
A German commemorative brass plaque, originally with oxidised silver finish (now worn), with applied post 1920 Commemorative Naval airship badge and inscribed “Kapitanleutnant Franz Stabbert Kommandant L44 Fur Herausragende Leistungen Im Luftkrieg Delag Friedrichshafen 1917”, with roped border and Iron Cross in each corner, 6½” x 9” overall, in its brown velvet lined case. A Third Reich SA dagger, by J P Sauer & Sohn, Suhl, the hilt with nickel silver mounts, the crosspiece stamped “Fr” (SA group Franken), in its anodised sheath with leather hanging strap having nickel silver clip and buckle. GC, a clean example (light staining down one edge of the blade which is also rubbed by the liner, minor scratches to the sheath). Plate 3
A Third Reich NSKK dagger, by Puma, Solingen, the hilt with nickel silver upper mount and plated zinc lower mount, in its black painted sheath with nickel silver mounts. GC, the dagger quite clean (very light pitting to blade, sheath paint very worn and crazed, chape slightly battered, the locket screws missing but several replacement screws supplied).

An Indian silver mounted jambiya, curved blade 14”, with a simple decorative central panel, the outer face of the hilt and sheath elaborately decorated overall with studded, beaded and filigree work panels, sheath with 3 small suspension loops on either side and a single red “stone” to the upper panel. A 19th century Indian dagger dha, SE blade 7”, DE towards point, with shallow fuller, floral embossed sheet silver lower band to hilt, ivory grip nicely pierced and carved in the form of a standing mythical figure in an ornamental scrollwork “cage”, its monster face protruding to form the pommel (section of scroll work missing from top of “cage”), in its dark wood sheath, the sheet silver locket and chape ensuite with hilt.
