Formerly the property of Evelyn Waugh; a pair of glass flasks with hallmarked silver tops for London 1930, each engraved with EW initials, the whole contained in a leather travelling case, also marked with initials EW, total height 14.5cm. Provenance: the current vendor grew up in the same village as the Waughs in Combe Florey and used to visit the house when she was young. She informed us that Evelyn hated children, his own included, even though he had six. The vendor was always told by her mother not to go through to the front of the house. Being a naughty child, she once took a shortcut through the back hall and bumped into Evelyn on his way to the toilet. Terrified and speechless, she expected to receive a severe telling off; Evelyn asked her if she knew how to curtsey and when she said no, the "fat little man" (her words), showed her how it was done and then told her to do it, which she did, then she was given two shillings (Illustrated).
