MEDALS TO THE BARHAM FAMILY. British War & Victory medals, named to 60011 Sjt A E Barham RA. Long Service Good Conduct medal GV, named to 1031493 Sjt A E Barham RA. With (11) Silver School and Sports medals, some named to Alfred Barham of N School Battersea. Other badges include Boys Brigade etc. 1939/45 & Atlantic Stars, War Medal with box of issue and Condolence Slip to AB A E Barham (Son) RN. The slip mentions (4) awards, though no information as to the missing award. C/JX 172873 AB Alfred E Barham was Killed In Action on HMS Harvester in March 1943. The son of A E Barham of 11 Garfield Road, Battersea, London SW11, no age given. HMS Harvester an H Class Destroyer was on Convoy HX228 escort duties, when she rammed and forced the surfacing of U444. It was sunk by the French Corvette Aconit, after survivors were rescued. With a failed attempt to regain power, the Harvester was sunk by U432 the following day whilst becalmed. This Submarine was sunk after being Depth Charged, again by Aconit. With the loss of its CO. 7 Officers and 136 Ratings, also 39 rescued survivors of earlier actions. A related Gt War pair to W Hall RNVR, in box of issue.

A silver Miniature Rifle Clubs medal, unnamed as issued, with Birmingham 1906 hallmarks. A 1914/15 Star named to 2260 Pte P R Appleby Som L.I. British War & Victory medals named to 2260 Pte P R Appleby Som .L.I. Pte Percy R Appleby served in the N W Frontier war zone, (5g) from 29/8/1915 onwards, returning in early May 1919. Presumably in the 2nd Battalion. Also a photograph of a young Appleby, without a name for provenance.

AN AIRCREW EUROPE OBE (Civil) MBE (MILITARY) GROUP. A group awarded to FO (Navigator) G D (Lofty) Mitchell MBE Military RAF. In later civil life it would appear that he was awarded the OBE prior to his death. His MBE was awarded for his war and post war service in the RAF. Mounted for wear is an MBE, 1939/45 & Aircrew Europe Stars with France & Germany bar, also an MID emblem on the War Medal. His MID was in the London Gazette 1-1-1945 George Duncan Mitchell was a specialist in Research at the Social Science and Administration Department. He published the book Parish Council and Rural Communications. His promotion from Flying Officer to Flight Lieutenant was in the London Gazette 25/1/1965. Cased silver Life Saving Merit Award named to G D Mitchell 1938. Another L S award in bronze named to M E C Miller 1938. Framed RCAF Sqdn 426 crest, where he is believed to have trained.

THE MEDALS OF CAPTAIN A C HILL AN EAST SURREYS CASUALTY. Captain Alastair Conway Hill was serving in the 2nd Battalion The East Surreys, when he was Killed In Action 1/1/1942 in Singapore. Aged 28 yrs he was the husband of Marion Albertine Hill of Peking, son of Colonel Conway Hill, commemorated on the Singapore Memorial. Younger brother of Major J H C Hill. With a related silver St John Ambulance Association awarded to 151213 Janet D Hill with top bar 1913, both hallmarked. Also the medal ribbon bar for his ancestor CIE, Naval General Service, Trio and 35 Jubilee, 37 Coronation medals.

War medal and India Service medal, the latter two unnamed as issued. The three mounted for wear, with two sets of matching silver miniatures. Cased and loose College Prize Medals Major John Hugh Conway Hill was born 22/11/1913. The older brother of Capt Alastair Conway Hill, both the sons of Colonel Conway Hill and Mrs Hill. Educated at Wellington College, where he excelled at various Sports. After two years on the unattached list (Devons ?) he was commissioned as 2/Lt Indian army 14/11/1934, and Lt 30/11/1935. He was awarded the India General Service medal for the pre W W 11 campaign on the N W Frontier. Officers black buttons for the tunic of a 3 Gurkha Rifles, in large (11) & (15) small sizes.. A silver Life Saving medal named to J H C Hill 1929, also seven bronze coloured sporting medals 3 x Devonshire Regt for Boxing or Running etc. One in silver `Welterweight`. A ROYAL FLYING CORPS PILOTS MEDALS & EPHEMERA. British War & Victory medals named to Lt H Lambourne RFC. Royal Aero Club Pilots Licence, with photograph and pass dated 1st July 1916, No 3204. Photographs of Herbert Lambourne in Sherwood Foresters uniform wearing the rank of 2/Lt. Another with Herbert Lambourne wearing his RFC Pilots Wings on his army officers tunic. Three more of him in front of or seated in his FE2b, whilst serving with 18 Squadron. A Silver Birmingham hallmarked cigarette case with RFC pilots wings and enamel RFC colours. The case by the Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Co. A cloth set of dress bullion Royal Flying Corps wings 5"" wide by 3"" high. A set of three miniature medals, Gt War pair and WW11 defence medal. Original paperwork includes his Army Form B 2079. 17370 Lce.Corp Herbert Lambourne , 12th Sherwood Foresters who enlisted at Nottingham on the 23rd September 1914. He is discharged for the purpose of being appointed to a commission, after serving 70 days with the colours. Place Shoreham 1/12/1914. 23 years 161 days old, 5`. 4 & 3/4"" tall, Complexion fresh, blue eyes, fair hair. He enlisted an on the 29/9/1914 was sent to the Sherwoods at Pear Tree, Derby Depot, via Midland Railway. After passing his Aero Licence a Combined Leave and Railway ticket for First Class from Nottingham to France 26/12/1916-10/11/1917, is with the paperwork. An original newspaper cutting relates to an eye witness who saw his plane in an air fight with the Huns. A Croydon flying man Lieut H Lambourne, has had a memorable adventure in the air in which he has showed all the sporting pluck of his corps. As a result of the adventure , he is now in Hospital at the front and the story comes from a New Zealand Baptist Minister The Rev T A Williams, who says that Lieut Lambourne has a fracture of the elbow and the left humerus and a flesh wound in his left hip. He is doing well and is not in danger. Mr Williams says that he was flying-over somewhere or other-doing observation work, when three Hun machines made for him. While he was fighting these, three other Hun machines appeared above him. In the fight his controlling gear was shot away, and only two of his connecting rods were left.. His Observer was shot through the face and had his jaw fractured, and his left eye destroyed. Lambourne was shot in the arm and the hip. Still they fought until the Observer collapsed. Lieut Lambourne piloted his aircraft homeward and remembering at a certain aerodrome there was a doctor, and made for that and landed in a state of collapse. It will be some months before he is himself again, and will probably be sent to England. Lieut Lambourne is the son of Mr W T Lambourne of 32 Mansfield Road , Croydon. He joined the Sherwood in September 1914, obtained a commission and transferred to the Royal Flying Corps and gained his `Wings`, and has seen a good deal of service in the field. Two No 1 New Zealand Stationary Hospital forms dated 4/3/1917 showing his graph till the 30/3/17. An Officers Protection Certificate showing his release date after service in the Air Ministry 30/7/1919. A letter from J Collinson stating his amazement at Herbert still being alive, having not heard of him since 1917, dated 1932. His observer in the plane was Pte J Collinson, when they were shot up by Lt d.Renatus.Thellier flying a D111 of Jasta 5. He attacked and shot down various allied aircraft until he himself was KIA 25/3/1917 having claimed twelve aircraft (confirmed) amid other unproven claims. Hermann Goering was himself shotdown and wounded whilst serving in Jasta 5. Lt Theiller was the first to fall under the guns of the Canadian Ace Billy Bishop VC who himself recorded 72 victims. A 17th Wing statement of being a sound pilot in M Farmans and FE2B aircraft with 21 hours solo flying. 11/8/1916. Another newspaper cutting
A CASED MASONIC MEDAL NAMED TO LT COL A H C KEARSEY DSO/OBE A silver gilt and enamel medal, Old Cliftonians XXV11 1935-36, Lodge No 3340. In H T Lamb & Co Masonic Jewellers marked case, named on the reverse Presented to W.Bro Lt Col A H C Kearsey DSO. To commemorate his year of office, with Birmingham hallmarks. Commissioned into the Y &Lancs he served in the S African War 1899-1902, then the Great War. For the former he was twice MID and awarded the DSO. He transferred to the 10th R Hussars in 1905. etc Sold with photocopies of his career and London Gazette entries etc.
A DSO GROUP OF SIX MEDALS TO Lt COL A H K JOPP A I F. A George V Distinguished Service Order in case of issue, 1914/15 Star named to Lieut A H K Jopp 3/F.A.Bde. A.I.F. British War & Victory medals named to Major A H K Jopp.(MID Emblem on the Victory medal). 1939/45 War medal impressed to 3239 A H K Jopp. South African Service medal again impressed to 3239 A H K Jopp. Arthur Harold Keith Jopp was born in Brisbane on the 1/5/1890, the son of George Keith Jopp. Educated in Queensland he joined the Australian Field Artillery in 1909 as a Lieutenant, Captain 1914, Major 1916, retired as a Lt Colonel in 1919. He married in 1915 Anne Talbot the youngest daughter of Mr Baines of Westbrook, Horsham, Sussex (She died in 1928). He served in Egypt and Gallipoli during 1915. (Despatches). In France from 1916-17 being awarded the Distinguished Service Order LG 1/1/1917. During that period for six months he was seconded to the fledgling Australian Flying Corps (Naval Flying in newspaper article). He is listed during the 1920-30-40`s as in the Australian Commonwealth Bank in London, later South Africa. With a schools medal dated 1907, Brisbane Grammar School, Schools of the Empire match. A H K Jopp around the rim. A photograph of Lt Colonel Jopp in later life, also a newspaper article `A Gallant Australian`. Major A H Keith Jopp under his portrait, who has been awarded the DSO. He is the son of Mr & Mrs Keith Jopp of Sydney and the brother-in law of Mjr-General Sir Harry Chauvel KCMG and CB, commanding the Anzac mounted infantry in Egypt. Major Jopp is 26 years of age and before the war he held the rank of Captain in the Garrison Artillery.He served throughout the Gallipoli Campaign, for two months as a Captain of the Royal Artillery, and from then on before the evacuation as an Observation Officer in the Royal Naval Flying Corps. On the reorganisation of the forces preparatory to going to the Western Front, he was promoted to the rank of Major in command of a Howitzer Battery. He was twice Mentioned in Despatches. As a subaltern his first guard of honour was to the late Lord Kitchener on his visIt to Melbourne. With his group of matching miniatures, mounted for wear. A signed portrait of Jan Smuts, also a silver tea strainer and bowl, enscribed To Mrs Keith Jopp from 4th Heavy Battery August 1940. See Illustration

A 1914/15 STAR & MASONIC AWARDS TO H TALBOT G GUARDS. A 1914/15 Star named to 22107 L.Cpl H Talbot G Guards. A 9ct ROAB medal with two dated bars the Order of Merit was awarded to Bro Harold Talbot CP. Four further silver/gilt masonic awards to Bro H Talbot PCP etc. 2/Lt Harold Talbot was serving in France from 5/10/1915, later commissioned into the Cheshire Regt. His address was Frankly nr Birkenhead in 1921-22.
