A pair of French 6 shot 12mm gold washed double action pinfire revolvers, c late 1860s, sighted octagonal barrels 145mm (5¾”) with sliding ejector rods on the right side; the breeches, double ribbed fluted cylinders and frames chiselled and engraved with panels of vines and scrolls; with plain ivory grips and lanyard rings. Good Working Order and Condition, totally devoid of any markings (much wear to the gold wash, the exposed metalwork having dark patina); in their close fitted blue velvet lined mahogany case with brass bound lid, the lid lining gold blocked with retailer’s name “Ventura Ferran y Ca, Florida 165, Buenos-Aires”, containing turnscrew with fluted ebony handle, ebony cleaning rod with knurled knob and nickel silver jag, and turned ebony oil bottle (base missing). Good Condition (brass strip in the lid has sprung). Plate 18 £1000-1200

A scarce French 6 shot 7mm Dumonthier (Paris) double action pinfire knife pistol, c 1870, number 3873, barrel and blade 170mm (6¾”), the semi octagonal barrel 85mm (3-3/8") stamped on the left of the breech”DUMONTHIER Bte S.G. D.G.”, the cylinder stamped with “E” in rectangle above an indistinct mark, with loading gate which hinges backwards, folding trigger and one piece bag shaped polished horn butt with lanyard ring, with its wood lined leather covered sheath having silver plated mounts, the upper mount incorporating the ejector rod. Good Working Order and Condition (the pistol slightly worn) Plate 21 £1200-1500.

A rare French combination 6 shot 7mm self cocking pinfire revolver/hunting sword by Lefaucheux c 1860, made for the South American market, 23½” overall, double edged blade 16" with two wide fullers, etched with panels of foliage, stag beneath trees, and inscribed “ALFREDO HEROUARD LIMA”; the hilt with engraved nickel silver pommel, broad chiselled and engraved cross guard, and chequered ebony grips; the revolver mounted in front of the cross guard and having a round 80mm (3¼”) barrel retaining traces of silver plating, and engraved in script “E. Lefaucheux Bt a Paris”, the frame bearing Lefaucheux’s “LF” mark and serial number “8255”, the trigger, hammer, and loading gate located behind the crosssguard; in its leather covered scabbard with South American style scroll engraved nickel silver mounts. Good Condition (the trigger spring AF, metalwork slightly worn, scabbard slightly creased, the sword will not fully enter the scabbard). Illo'.Footnotes:The fourth and final Jacobite heir to publicly claim the thrones of England, Scotland, and Ireland, Henry Benedict Stuart was the younger son of the Old Pretender, James 'III and VIII,' and brother of the Young Pretender, Charles 'III.' Created the Duke of York by his father, he remained removed from the politics of the Jacobite movement, and was made Cardinal-Bishop of Frascati in Italy where he spent his life in exile. Upon his elder brother's death in 1788, those within his camp as well as the movement styled him as Henry IX of England and Ireland and Henry I of Scotland. He never referred to himself publicly in this manner, however, and the papacy did not recognize him as the legitimate heir to the respective thrones.
