A 5 shot .31” Colt Model 1849 Pocket percussion revolver, barrel 4” with New York City 2 line address, number 117373 (1856) on all parts, with clear stage coach scene on cylinder, brass trigger guard and backstrap retaining some silver plating, and varnished wood grips. Good Working Order and Condition (some light wear, slight bruising to barrel). Plate 29
A 16 bore percussion holster pistol by Lowe of Chester, c 1840, 13½” overall, sighted octagonal barrel 8” engraved “Chester”, flat lock engraved with line border, scrolls and “Lowe”, the walnut fullstock with rounded chequered butt, vacant oval silver escutcheon and steel mounts including engraved trigger guard with elaborate urn finial. Good Working Order and Condition (some pitting around nipple, the ramrod an old replacement). Plate 30
A fine silver mounted double barrelled side by side 60 bore cannon barrelled flintlock boxlock pistol by I. Parr, hallmarked 1776, 11” overall, turn off barrels 4¼”, the octagonal breeches with Tower private proofs, left hand barrel and breech numbered “1” ; with engraved signed frame, single ring neck cock, frizzen and trigger, left hand pan with sliding cover operated by thumb catch on frame; polished walnut butt inlaid with silver wire scrolls and wavy borders, and with silver butt cap embossed with lion and castle within scrolls, and bearing Birmingham hall marks for 1776 and maker’s mark of Charles Freeth, the oval silver escutcheon engraved with monogram. Good Working Order and Clean Condition. Plate 30
A mid 18th century partly silver mounted 16 bore flintlock fowling piece, by Clarkson of London, 51½” overall, round barrel 36” with London proofs and maker’s mark “RE”, breech engraved with long teardrop panel, muzzle with silver teardrop foresight; plain slightly rounded lock with raised edge, raised pan and swan neck cock, plate signed “Clarkson”; slender walnut fullstock, scroll carving around the breech tang, flower engraved steel trigger guard with acanthus finial, butt plate tang with trophy of arms, and openwork silver sideplatewith acanthus leaves, shell and animal head, and silver escutcheon engraved with crest of double headed eagle over coronet and motto “Festina Lente”; with its original wooden ramrod and iron worm. Good Working Order and Condition (light pitting to lock). The sideplate and breech of this gun is illustrated in “Great British Gunmakers, 1740-1790” by Neal and Back, plate 525. Plate 32
A good quality 18th century 32 bore Indian matchlock gun, torador, 65½” overall, deeply etched twist barrel 47” decorated at the breech and muzzle with large gold and silver koftgari flowers and foliage, steel sideplates with silver and gold koftgari borders and fluted domed rivet heads, the plain dark rosewood (?) fullstock with three koftgari decorated iron barrel bands and fluted horn block behind the breech, with sling swivels and original iron ramrod. Good Condition and Working Order, with pleasing age patina (slight wear to decoration on side plates, the action rather stiff). Plate 32
A good .45” Enfield pattern 3 band prize target rifle, 53” overall, barrel 37” with hexagonal rifling, breech with London proofs, stamped “Kerr’s Patent”, “Regis’d ....May 61” in very small oval, and engraved “442” just behind the inclined ladder rearsight; lock with engraved beaded border and stamped with crowned VR and “1862 L.A.Co”; dark walnut fullstock with deeply chequered fore end grip and wrist, the butt inset with circular silver plaque engraved “12th Surrey Rifles/ Battalion Match/ First Prize/ Won by/ Lieut F Could/ Octr.1st/ 1862”, with regulation pattern steel mounts, sling swivels, nipple protector on chain, special pattern ramrod with brass tip, and brass mounted muzzle plug. Good Working Order and Condition, dark patina to metalwork. Plate 34
A good cased 5 shot 60 bore Third Model Webley “long spur” single action percussion revolver, number 1420, 10” overall, barrel 4¼” engraved “Webley & Son, Birmingham”, Birmingham proved, the chambers numbered 1 to 5, the frame and trigger guard scroll engraved, the back strap engraved “1420/ By Her Majesty’s Royal Letters Patent”, with chequered walnut grips and small loop for lanyard. Good Working Order and Clean Condition, the barrel and rammer blued, the cylinder bright, the hammer colour hardened, the frame and trigger guard silver plated; in its green baize lined fitted mahogany case with shield shaped escutcheon in the lid, containing flask (retaining much original lacquer), brass single cavity bullet mould, nipple key with pricker, turnscrew, pewter oil bottle, cleaning rod, lacquered cap tin with label (label incomplete) tin of lubricating paste, 4 spare nipples, some bullets, and key to case. A nice clean set the case shows slight signs of being forced open). See Front Cover.

A Victorian officer’s helmet of The Life Guards, plated skull (minor dents) with gilt peak binding (cracked in places), gilt and silver plated helmet plate with red and blue enamelled Star of the Order of the Garter centre on gilt wreath of laurel and oak, surmounted by a crown, gilt chinchain (backing missing), and ear rosettes, gilt and silver plated top mount and spike, white hair plume with plain rosette, leather lining. A French officer’s lance cap, c 1848, of the National Guard Lancers, black patent leather skull and brass bound peak, black cloth stem with red lace band and cord terminal edges to top, quatrefoil silver plated (worn) ear rosettes with lion’s head bosses and chinchain, rayed plate bearing applied cockerel on ball within wreath, and scroll “Liberté Ordre Public”, leather and silk lining. Basically Good Condition for age (worn overall).
