Ray Swinfield (Beatles interest) - Fine solid silver concert flute by and stamped The Haynes Flute, WM.S. Haynes Co. Boston, Mass. ser. no. 30269, Registered Trademark, within original case - * This flute was famously played by Ray Swinfield on the sound track of Penny Lane by the Beatles. Amongst the instruments Ray owned, he had those which were his favourites and that he favoured playing; two of these were this Haynes Concert Flute 30269 and the Gemeinhardt Piccolo (lot 1637), both of which he played on the Beatles’ “Penny Lane” and on many other significant recordings and live appearances.**Bob Sydor, Ray’s close friend and musical colleague, also a consummate performer on woodwinds, shared with Ray their many performing experiences; he, too, is familiar with the flutes used by Ray on “Penny Lane”. *** Lindy Swinfield (Ray's surviving wife) is happy to provide written confirmation that this flute was used on the soundtrack of Penny Lane and 'Mr Benn' children's television series.
