SCOTTISH VICTORIAN DEPUTY LIEUTENANT UNIFORMS LATE 19TH CENTURY by Henry Poole & Co, Saville Row, London, circa 1880, including a full dress scarlet double-breasted coatee with white lined tails, with crown and laurel wreath plated buttons and silver oakleaf embroidery to collar, cuffs and thistles to the tails, fitted with a pair of epaulettes, the crescents with a thistle in gold and silver embroidery, with a matching pair of trousers with silver lace stripe; also with a black double-breasted coatee with gilt embroidery, with Royal coats of arms gilt buttons and silver and gilt oakleaf and foliate embroidery to collar and skirt-slashes, with a matching pair of trousers with gold lace stripe, the trousers with hand written label for Henry Poole, all four pieces with order number ‘89’ labels; and a black tall bicorn hat of military style with a loop of flat silver lace and gold bullion tassels, upright white over red feather plume; and a blue silk lined magistrates full hood with a cowl; together with a VICTORIAN DEPUTY LIEUTENANT COURTSWORD, by Morgan & Co, London, with etched blade decorated with foliage and the retailer's details, gilt-brass hilt including down-turned shell-guard decorated with the crowned Royal cypher and foliage, solid crown pommel, with bullion sword knot, in a leather covered wooden scabbard with gilt brass single stud on the locketDimensions:sword 91cm longProvenance:Provenance: Henryson-Caird Collection, Cassencarie HouseNote: Note: Belonging to Sir James Caird KCB FRS (Scottish 1816 - 1892), who served as magistrate and deputy-lieutenant of the Scottish county of Wigtownshire at the end of his career.
