A mid 18th century French 40 bore double barrelled over and under single trigger flintlock holster pistol,17” overall, barrels 9” with octagonal breeches, the lower barrel retaining faint traces of gold decoration; the flat locks signed “Chariere a Paris”, and with squared pans and unbridled frizzens, the lock plates and frizzens chiselled with trophies of arms and grotesque masks on a gold background; the butt and fore ends of figured walnut, with openwork silver escutcheon surmounted by a coronet, a mask below and with animal supporters; the steel mounts include long spurred butt cap, the finial with traces of gold decoration. Poor Condition, (actions AF, the metalwork very worn and pitted, one cock an old replacement, some damage to woodwork). Two Charieres, father and son, are listed in Stockel as working between 1731 and 1756. Has been very fine in its time. Plate 11
A Turkish sword, yataghan, blade 23½”, with silver damascened panels at the forte and with simulated damascus panels inlaid with silver scrolls and characters (?), the steel hilt silver damascened overall with foliate panels, in its leather covered scabbard with silver damascened chape and locket. GC (some silver inlay missing from the blade, the scabbard leather replaced, the chape and locket pitted on the reverse). See inside back cover

GWO & C (slightly worn overall through much use, some pitting to bores); in a modern leatherette covered case with a can of Holland & Holland finest Rangoon oil, some cleaning brushes and mops, and a box containing several cleaning rods.
