A George II Irish provincial silver cream jug, by George Hodder, Cork c.1750, of baluster form with moulded girdle and scroll handle on three shell capped hoof feet, with wavy rim and elongated spout, engraved with initials 'S.P.' to underside, 11.5cm high, 6oz CONDITION REPORT: General wear. Split to rim to one side of handle. Indentations of legs visible to interior of base - legs have been compressed into body. As a result, legs slightly bent and feet don't sit completely flat. Small knocks and dents to spout. In general, rim is knocked and slightly mishapen in places. Fine splits to two feet, one very small. Generally small knocks and surface scratching throughout. A pair of George III Irish provincial silver mugs, by Carden Terry, Cork c.1770/75, of baluster form on collet circular feet with leaf capped scroll handles, monogrammed, 11cm high, 22oz Lots 45 and 46 have been consigned by descendants of the Martin family of Co. Cork. Lot 162, a pair of George III Irish silver wine labels by George Nangle, also come from the same source. CONDITION REPORT: One mug has two dents to body, beneath monogram, and another small dent near handle. The other has evidence of solder where top of handle joins body and top rim is not completely circular when viewed from above. Generally expected surface wear and small knocks. Lid doesn't sit completely flush. Loss and cracks to bottom ivory insulator. Discoloured. Visible seam to top of handle and some spots of corrosion to lip of spout. A silver beaker, by David Gill, London 1995, designed by Richard Vallis, of tapering circular form, with cast foliate foot, gilt interior, 15cm high, 12oz Richard Vallis trained at the Royal College of Art and designed silver for David Gill who is a promoter of avant-garde designs. This piece was illustrated in a 'Country Life' article on 'Idiosyncratic Silver' on September 29th 1994. CONDITION REPORT: This item weighs 12 ounces and not 20 ounces as catalogued.

All casters are generally worn with rubbing to details and knocks. Britannia example has mishapen foot rim and dents to pierced top. Daniell and Mince example has thinning to foot rim, dents to body and area of green surface corrosion to lid. Also solder repairs to corner. Wood example has mishapen footrim and dents to body and cover.

Generally worn with surface scratches and small knocks.

Lot 90

A silver goblet, by Hugh Wallis, Chester 1927, the spot hammered bell shaped bowl on hexagonal stem, terminating in a domed hexagonal base, with presentation inscription on ebonised plinth, 17cm high with base Hugh Wallis (1871-1943) was well known for his designs in brass, copper and pewter, as well as silver. His work often incorporated intricate inlaid metal designs. He trained at Bushey, Hertfordshire, before opening a studio in 1900 in Altrincham. He registered his first mark at Chester Assay Office in 1905 and became an important member of the Northern Art Workers' Guild. CONDITION REPORT: Surface scratches. Top rim dented and mishapen.

A rare set of six George III silver hanovarian pattern picture back teaspoons, by William Smith, London c.1765, the reverse of the bowls decorated with a teapot, 12.25cm long See page 21 in Investing In Silver by Eric Delieb who thought them to be the 'rarest of all picture-backs'. CONDITION REPORT: Generally worn with thinning to bowls and rubbing to detail on teapots. Three of the spoons have stems that don't lie completely straight. One of these stems has split and had a solder repair in the centre. Small knocks and surface scratches. Please view additional images (available upon request).

Screw fixing knop appears to be a non-silver replacement. Tarnish and light general wear, but no obvious major faults. Moth holes to felt lining of case.

A George III silver swing handled sweetmeat basket, by John Henry Vere & William Lutwyche, London 1766, of oval form on a collet foot, the wirework body applied with trailing foliage, the swing handle with floral decoration, engraved with initials to underside, 16cm long, 5.5oz CONDITION REPORT: Wires at one end are loose in base. There is a very small split to base, around one of these holes. Repair to handles - solder visible, and has obliterated small area of decoration. General wear. Some wires bent. A silver preserve pot and spoon, designed by AE Jones and retailed by George Lawrence Connell, Birmingham 1909, of spot hammered cylindrical form, with ropework border and tassels terminating in tudor rose motifs, the cover and spoon with fluted ball finials, 13.5cm high, 5oz excluding clear glass liner A E Jones' work was sold by many retail companies and some chose to use their own retail mark on his pieces. All orders given to Jones by Connell's had to be marketed under their name. CONDITION REPORT: Light general wear. Please view images of marks.
