A pair of early Victorian silver shaped circular salvers by John Tapley, London 1839, with chased scroll and foliate borders, engraved with a crest above an armorial, on three grape vine, shell and foliate scroll feet, 23.5cm (9 1/4in) diameter, 1078g (34.65 oz) The aems for William GIBBS (1790-1875) of Tyntesfield, Wraxall Somerset and Clyst St George, Devon. The blazon:  argent, three battle axes sable (GIBBS) - impaling - erminois, on a fess azure between three cranes proper a saltire between two crosses-crosslet fitchee or (CRAWLEY) and on a chief ermine a bend gules charged with three guttes d'or between two martlets sable (BOEVEY) Crest: an arm embowed in armour proper garnished or holding in the gauntlet a poleaxe argent (GIBBS) William GIBBS (1790-1875) Esquire was born in Madrid the second son of Anthony GIBBS (1756-1815) from Clyst St Mary , Devon and Dorothea Barnetta HUCKS (1760-1820). Anthony GIBBS established in 1802 the British trading company Antony Gibbs & Sons, whose interests spanned trading in cloth, guano , wine and fruit, and led to it becoming involved in banking, shipping and insurance.  William GIBBS married in 1839 Matilda Blanch CRAWLEY-BOEVEY daughter of Sir Thomas CRAWLEY-BOEVEY (1769-1847) 2nd Baronet and Albinia PAGE (died 1835). Although their principal residence was in London, William frequently travelled to Bristol to access the port their and in 1843 purchased an estate at Tyntes Place (Tyntesfield) Wraxall, North Somerset which throughout his life he continued to develop. South Africa Pair and Great War Trio to 5859 Pte A Gibson Seaforth Highlanders, comprising Queen's South Africa medal, bars Transvaal, Wittebergen, Cape Colony, King's South Africa medal, bar South Africa 1902, 1914 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal, together with Seaforth Highlanders silver regimental sports medal, cap badge and other insignia, regimental photographs, handwritten officers' references, service record and other ephemera. Boer War medals with signs of wear. (Lot) Alexander Gibson joined the Seaforth Highlanders aged 14 years 4 months, and left as a Corporal circa 1922. He was mentioned in the South African Field Force Casualty Roll as being wounded on 11 December 1899 at Magersfontein. The Seaforth Highlanders were formed in 1881, and was a line infantry regiment, mainly associated with the northern Highlands of Scotland. The Regiment saw service in WWI and WWII as well as further smaller campaigns.
