A Chinese late 17th Century Kangxi period (1661-1722) jar, the globular jar with wide slightly everted rim, decorated in underglazed blue with two opposing panels filled with tree flanked mountainous landscapes, below a series of eight auspicious Buddhistic emblems, height 16cm, diameter 19cm, double circular lines to the underside of base and old paper labels, lacking cover. NB - Please see Christiaan JA.Jorg, Chinese Ceramics In The Collection Of The Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. p109 for a similar example. It is a rare shape for the Kangxi Period. Originally they would have had simple bronze or silver mounts and may have been used as censers. Filled holes on either side of the neck further confirms that originally this jar is very likely to have had mounts and a cover. Provenance - This item has been owned by the current family for over 100 years and thence by descent.
