A SECOND WORLD WAR GROUP to Major T P Simmonds 10th Parachute Battalion, late Sussex Regiment and Recce Corps . Mentioned in Despatches in 1940; 1939 to 45 Star, Defence Medal and War with MID. LSGC GVI Regular Army bar. Correctly impressed to 6394041 WO Cl 2 T P Simmonds Recce Corps. Condition GEF in box of issue; First three swing mounted on bar. Simmonds was a member of the 2nd battalion The Royal Sussex Regiment, In the Pre-war years he served in India and took part in many shooting and sporting competitions. As part of the BEF, the 2nd Bn sent to France in April 1940. Simmonds was Mentioned in Despatches for 'Service in the Field' in France between March 1940 and June 1940. The awarded was announced in the London gazette on 20th December 1940. Simmonds was then transferred to the Reconnaissance Corps and awarded the Long Service Good Conduct with them in 1941. He was then commissioned as a Lieutenant Quarter master in the Reconnaissance Corps on 21st April 1942. In 1943 the 2nd Battalion formed 10th Parachute battalion. Simmonds returned to the 2nd and complete his training to become a qualified Paratrooper. On 16th August 1943 he was promoted to Major. It seems that he didn't take part in any further fighting and likely continued in his role as Quartermaster. A copy photograph with the group shows Simmonds with the rank insignia of Major with Parachute Regiment Beret and Reconnaissance Corps Collar dogs. The photograph states India 1943 to 1945, which may indicate Simmonds was transferred to the 50th Parachute Brigade. Simmonds retired in 1955. In civilian life it seems he considered applying for a civilian quartermaster position with 22nd SAS upon their transfer to headquarters in Herefordshire. RARE 'RUSSIAN ORDER OF ZEAL' GROUP TO MUSICIAN A J MOODY OF THE GREYS who played for Tsar Nicholas II on the Royal Yacht Leith. 1914 Star - 5403 Pte A J Moody 2/DNS British War Medal - 2DNS- 5403 Pte A J Moody 2-DNS Victory Medal - 2DNS- 5403 Pte A J Moody 2-DNS LSGC - D20924 Musician A J Moody The Greys Russian order of Zeal engraved Ddn Moody. NVF contact marks to obverse and reverse (Silver dipped) Alfred John Moody was born in Islington Middlesex in 1886. At the time of the 1891 census, he was living with his family in Kensington. From the age of nine until fifteen, he was sent to the Workhouse in Islington on numerous occasions. It seems that his siblings were unable to support him after their parents' deaths. He played in the Workhouse band and aged fifteen years and four months on 30th October 1901 attested for the 2nd Dragoons ( Royal Scots Grey). He gave his occupation as a Musician, and his papers show he was living at St Marys Guardian School. He played with the regimental band for Tsar Nicholas II on the Royal Yacht Leith, at Edinburgh in 1909. The Tsar being the Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment. The musicians were each awarded a Russian Medal of Zeal in Silver, Alfred's award is confirmed in his service paper and on his framed certificate. Moody served in the Great War landing as part of the BEF on 17th August 1914, serving until 3rd September 1915 when he was sent home due to illness. After a period of recovery, he was posted back to France 13th December 1916. He was discharged at his own request after eighteen years 25th November 1919. Condition GVF With two Silver shooting medals. Albert McKinnon landed in France & Flanders on 8th September 1914, serving with the 2nd Bn. He was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps (9270) serving as Acting Company Sergeant Major. McKinnon was discharged to a commission, serving as a Lieutenant back with the Durham Light Infantry.

1914/15 TRIO TO 26 PTE R TRUSSLER SEAFORTHS Correctly impressed - 26 Pte R Trussler Seaforth ( star naming isn't well done) Condition GVF Robert Trussler landed in France on 1st May 1915 with the 5th Bn. He was subsequently transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. With Silver pipers medal presented by P Henderson.
GREAT WAR GROUP TO 2011 PTE A WILSON SEAFORTHS 1914/15 Trio correctly impressed -2011 Pte A Wilson Sea Highrs Defence Medal Silver War Badge - 362556 Condition GVF Alan Wilson joined up on 8th September 1914; he served in France from 1st May 1915. He was at some point transferred to the Labour Corps and discharged with a Silver War Badge on 17th May 1918.
