President of the Halifax Building Society who formally opened the hall 21st June 1937', marks for Walker and Hall, Sheffeild, the later inscribed 'Presented to Councillor Arthur Swarbrick, November 16th 1938' and 'On the occasion of with opening of the Lecture Hall Thornton' marks for Lloyd, Paine and Amiel, Birmingham.
