A salver of matching design by Crespin, of 1738, can be found in the Colonial Williamsburg Collection, USA. It is worth noting that this design was also produced by Paul de Lamerie during the same period. For a silver-gilt example of 1735 see Christie's, New York, Important Silver, 21 Oct 2003, Lot 410; and a pair, of 1732, Sotheby's, London, 17 Nov 2010, Lot 20. The style of the engraved border to the present example also bears some similarities to the border on a pair of small waiters by de Lamerie, from 1731, in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, which also incorporate the rather distinctive heads found within the circular reserves here. Examples of Crespin's mark overstriking that of de Lamerie are known, most famously on The Chesterfield Wine Coolers of 1727, now in the collection of the V&A and the Royal Museum of Scotland.
