A christening cup, the bell shaped bowl with beaded S-scroll handles and engraved with contemporary initials I R G, 70mm h, maker I H, Guernsey c1760, 2ozs 16dwts The maker known only from his mark was described by Richard Mayne as "A king of christening cups" on account of his having recorded 40 known examples by the maker dating from a period of almost 60 years and may have been the work of a father and son in succession.
