dating: XVIII/XX Secolo provenance: Arabia, Curved, single-edged blade of 18th/19th century, made of beautiful scaled damask, two cartouches with Arabic inscriptions at the base. Gilded silver hilt with quillon and kilij-type grip with relieved decorations and chain with sphere. The edges of quillon and pommel decorated with diamond-cut stones (glass?). Gilded silver scabbard richly decorated with floral motifs and Arabic inscriptions, bearing on both sides rosettes of diamond-cut stones (glass?), small missing part on the cap. Two suspension rings and rope. Kept in a beautiful wooden presentation case with rich inlaid works with wood and bone inlays. Lined with green velvet inside. length 95.5 cm.

dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Turkey, Slightly curved blade ribbed in the middle, gold inlaid at the base with inscriptions and leaves. Grip covered with silver foil, gilded on the front side and enriched with filigree spirals, decorated with coral and small cabochon turquoises. The back engraved with floral motifs. Silver-covered wooden scabbard, decorated en suite on both front and back. Chape shaped as a pine cone. A pair of turquoises is missing. The back provided also with a loop. Typical work of the Trebizond manufactures in Turkey. length 29 cm.

Iezane was a Kaga abumi in the mid-Edo period. length 29 cm.

dating: 19th Century provenance: Caucasia, Beautiful single-and false-edged blade with raised tip and triple fuller, the right side with Arabic inscriptions, tiger and floral motifs at base and animals on the back, near the weak, and with a deep, star-shaped Arabic mark. The opposite side with triple groove and decorated en suite. Handle of typical shape with horn grips and three iron rivets covered with silver Arabic coins on both sides. Complete with leather-covered wooden scabbard with iron loop and brass-foil mounts engraved with birds and floral motifs. length 64.5 cm.

In antique koshirae with tsuba maru-gata in copper-colored material with remains of browning and granulated ground (shakudo nanako?) enriched with gilt cranes in relief represented in a marsh scene, worked in cord and with remains of gilding on the border. Fuchi-kashira in shakudo with cranes and ducks flying in the rain (relieved, gilt drops). Tsuka with same covering and white silk tsuka-ito of old production (signs of use and time). Unfortunately, the saya is missing. length 93 cm.

dating: 1945 provenance: Japan, Heavy and wide blade, nagasa (length: 25 cm) with hi on both sides and with inscriptions of four kanji on the third side, iron habaki. Nakago mei with two mekugi-ana, with inscription on both sides, on one side date 8 February 1945 and 'Thailand', 'on the battlefield' and 'united Kasuya', on the other side 'Aketo Nakamura', 'Gunji' and kanji for the work of two gunsmiths. Western style Koshirae, ray-skin covered grip with simple, black lacquered, iron fuchi-kashira, on each side a three-flowered mon and a twelve-petalled mon with two different kanji, forming together the word 'Loyalty' (towards the Emperor), all made of silver. Blackened wood saya with black lacquered, iron mounts and a band with suspension ring. Aketo Nakamura (1889 - 1966) was lieutenant general, commanding the 5th Division from 1940, which was part of the Japanese invasion in French Indochina. From January 1943 he had been in command of the 39th army in Thailand until the end of the war.The peculiarity of this tanto is that the general himself worked together with an expert gunsmith on its creation, in fact, the nakago also bears his name next to that of the gunsmith Gunji. length 44.5 cm.

dating: 17th/18th Century provenance: Ottoman Empire, A set consisting of a quiver containing three short javelins. The javelins have wooden shafts and are provided with a long iron cusp of square section and with hollow sides, the handles covered with silver with rings at the ends. Wooden scabbard covered with leather sewn with wire and with iron mounts. Two suspension rings, one band with restorations. A rare hunting and war arm used throughout the East for centuries, mainly for hunting. These little javelins were perfectly balanced and could be hurled with great precision. See 'A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armour' by George Cameron Stone, p. 319-320. Upper hammer with safety lock. Checkered wooden butts, embossed silver butt-plates shaped as a lion's head. Lozenge-shaped, silver shield on the back. In an antique wooden box covered in burgundy cloth and labeled by James Bryce / Edinburgh complete with various tools and key. William McLauchlan was documented in Edinburgh from 1806 to 1847. dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Kutch, Heavy, wide, single-and-false-edged blade with a slightly hollowed and ribbed tip; decorated with gilded silver floral motifs on a granulated background at the first part and at the back. The base of the blade held by a beautiful hilt shaped as an elephant's head, gilded and decorated with green and red stones, as the cylindrical, bronze shaft decorated en suite and finely engraved with floral motifs. Lantern-shaped pommel with a turn-off, bud-shaped button containing a single-edged knife with silver-plated grip inside. Beautiful, gilded-silver scabbard with fine engravings, depicting matching floral motifs on a granulated background; the inner part made of wood and partially covered with red velvet. A small suspension ring. The name Bhuj probably derives from the name of the city of Bhuj, the former capital of Kutch, and today part of Gujarat. According to Elgood, the name Bhuj is unknown in Rajasthan or Deccan. Working mechanisms. Rare. Pietro Antonio Venditti, Torre Annunziata and Napoli, 1828 - 1878. After being released from hard labor, as he had been convicted for murder, he starts his own activity in Torre Annunziata; after many patents, he realizes and patents his famous repeating pistol, made for ten and even twenty-six shots. dating: about 1880 provenance: Vienna, Round, rifled, 11 mm cal. barrel, provided with front sight and fore-end, marked 'GASSER PATENT WIEN OTTAKRING SHUTZ MARCK 378xxx GUSS STAHL' and 'H' mark under a star; six-shot, smooth cylinder with same serial number, 'H' and '13' mark. Frame marked with the same serial number and 'L G'. On the right side extractor and loading gate. Working but tough mechanism (needs greasing?). Hammer with restoration made at the time of use. Butt with beautiful silver grips richly decorated in filigree and nielloed in Turkish Ali Pasha style. Ring for the strap. With leather scabbard (missing parts). Provenance: Anthony C. dating: Late 18th - Early 19th Century provenance: Turkey, Smoothbore, round, 16.5 mm cal barrel, richly decorated with floral carvings on the first segment, featuring a a Tughra-type mark on the left side. Modern-style lock with slightly rounded plate carved en suite with the barrel and with remains of gilt bottom. Working mechanism. The stock fully lined with metal foils finely worked in relief with dense raceme patterns on a dotted background. All the foils featuring most of the antique gilding. Mounts worked en suite. Turban-shaped pommel. The handle covered with silver wire binding. The muzzle ring with the typical fake ramrod. length 50 cm.

Lot 442

dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: France, Smoothbore, two-stage, iron, 11 mm cal. barrel, octagonal and round with rings at the girdle.The nozzle outlined with gold and engraved with a gold arrow at the base of the foresight. At the breech remains of gilt racemes followed by three cartouches hollow at the border, the central one with the gold signature 'CANON LE CLERRE.' At the bottom of the barrel the mark of the St. Etienne test bench and 'S' mark. Boxlock mechanism with iron frame engraved with racemes. Well-functioning, two-shot mechanism; foldaway trigger. Wooden 'C'-shaped grip, checkered and carved as a shell at the pommel. Enriched with silver-coloured metal inlays with spirals and dots. Probably the cane originally also had a removable shoe which could be inserted into the nozzle. Rare mixture of a boxlock pistol and a stick-gun. length 79 cm.

dating: 1862 provenance: Turin, Heavy, octagonal, rifled, 11 mm cal. barrel, signed with 'ROCHAT A TURIN' in gold and with 'VE' monogram (standing for Victor Emmanuel II) under crown, frames at the base, nozzle with precision front sight; finely engraved tang with floral motifs provided with peep sight. Forward spring lock, fully decorated with fine floral engravings. Wooden full stock, two silver cartouches on the right side, the upper one with Savoy coat of arms, the lower bandeau one with dedication 'DONO DI S.M. VITTORIO EMANUELE II ALLA SOCIETA DI TIRO A SEGNO DI TORINO 1862'. Checkered base, horn fore-end cap. Iron mounts decorated en suite with lock, ergonomic trigger guard with quick girdle, sliding, ovoid, wooden pommel. Set trigger. Iron ramrod. It was customary for the king to offer rifles like this one to the most important shooting societies as reward for the winner of the competition. length 125 cm.

COMTE D'ARTOIS PARIS'; wooden half stock sculpted with floral motifs; beautiful, silver mounts with high-and bas-relieved hunting trophies and floral motifs, the trigger guard with the owner's mark 'J. C. DORCHY', marks, at the back a leather-bound cushion. Brass-tipped wooden ramrod with iron cartridge extractor. Charles Simon is documented from 1765 to 1796, master gunsmith in 1765, he worked for Louis XVI and Charles X. 'Der Neue Stockel', Vol. II page 1172. length 121 cm.

dating: First half of the 19th Century provenance: Turkey, Smoothbore, two-stage, 15 mm cal. barrel, the first part octagonal with silver decoration at the base and 'S III' markings also made of silver, later round with rib; tang covered with silver; flintlock finely engraved with floral and geometric motifs; wooden full stock lightly engraved, the butt completely covered in silver foil decorated in filigree, the butt-plate decorated with floral motifs in relief, the back with cabochon corals and with three nielloed rhombuses. The iron trigger guard covered in leather. Long, embossed silver barrel bracket with fake ramrod. Very minor defects. In patina. Rare. length 53 cm.

dating: 1868 - 1875 provenance: USA, Round, rifled, 32 cal barrels engraved with floral motifs like all the iron parts, with high rib featuring address and patents, silver front sight. Grooved, five-shot cylinder, spur triggers. Mother-of-pearl grips. Remains of silver plating, one revolver also with remains of gilding (at the hammer and in the cylinder's grooves). Serial numbers '91xxx' and '85xxx.' Engravings en suite. Kept together in an antique wooden case with burgundy velvet lining featuring light-blue piping. length 20.5 cm.

dating: First half of the 19th Century provenance: Turkey, Made of iron, with octagonal carvings, baluster-shaped ends, the tip slightly enlarged, silver grip decorated in bas-relief and with decorated movable suspension ring. Rare. length 47.5 cm.

dating: Late 18th - Early 19th Century provenance: Turkey, Body of elliptical section with typically curved shape tapering toward the fuse, completely covered with silver foil. Finely worked with filigree frames, spirals and buds at the front side enriched with several cabochon coral drops. In the center three rosettes with green-enameled petals and with a central coral cabochon held by filigree spirals. The lid on the wider side decorated en suite with corals and a large central rosette with enameled petals. The rear side also covered with silver foil, engraved with floral motifs. On the back, typical iron band closure system hinged in the center and with spring, this one embellished with gold inlays, provided in the center with a pierced ornament surmounted by coral buds and with two brass lugs on a hinged base. Some signs of time and chips to the enamels. High quality model with the typical manufacture of the city of Trebizond in Turkey. length 16 cm.

dating: 19th Century provenance: Turkey, A pair of leather saddlebags covered on the front side with blue velvet with beautiful gilded-threads decorations in relief, the upper part with a lid concealing a place for four cartridges. Silver-foil chape embossed and engraved with floral motifs with a half-moon pendant. Other pendants in gilded threads. Spurs made of marked silver engraved with geometric motifs, with long pointed base and tear tape decorated with half-moon and star, leather straps covered with velvet and in gilded threads. Same pendants as the saddlebags. Leather sabretache covered with blue velvet and decorated en suite, inside various sections for documents with coverings decorated in the same manner. Complete with fabric clutch with remains of decorations. Sabretache with the same pendants. The whole group in good condition apart from small missing parts and defects. Fine patina. Very rare. dimensions various cm.

dating: End of 19th beginning of 20th Century provenance: Abissinia, Wide and massive, curved, single-and short-false-edged blade, with fuller and nickel-plating, engraved on half of its length on both sides. With a dense pattern of racemes surrounding the motto 'VIVA IL RE' on the right side, and with the effigy of a leaping lion on the left side, among racemes. Brown horn handle with signs of use and time. Silver-colored metal cap engraved with geometric motifs. Leather sword-knot. Leather scabbard with remains of impressed decoration. An interesting sample of the various wars that involved Italy, Eritrea and Ethiopia since the late 19th century, and that ended only in 1941 with the liberation of Ethiopia by the British and Ethiopian troops.See Calamandrei 'Storia dell'Arma Bianca Italiana,' pg.196, lower left photo depicting cavalrymen of the 14th colonial cavalry squadron group 'Cavalieri dell'Amara' of 1936, the caption says: 'the soldiers of Coptic-Christian religion were armed with guradè...'Probably this was the weapon of an important member of the native troops serving the Italian forces. length 94 cm.

Loops for the epaulettes (missing), buttons with tiara and inscription 'GUARDIA NOBILE', on the chest buttonholes for the orders. Complete with red Morocco leather belt with gilded stripe and blue bordering, complete with clutches for the sabre, bandoleer worked en suite and provided with gilded metal papal badges, one with silver 'GNP' monogram of the Noble Guard, the other with decussate keys and papal tiara. Blue fabric trousers with double gilded stripe, provided with buckles on the lower border with ankle loops. The Noble Guard was dissolved by Pope Paul VI in 1970. height 81 cm.

Chest with several buttonholes for the orders. Complete with epaulettes with gilded-threads bullions and provided with three silver stars, gilded-and silvered-threads band, tassels with three stars and bandoleer worked en suite and provided with gilded metal Papal badges, one with silver 'GNP' monogram of the Noble Guard, the other with decussate keys and papal tiara. Gilt buttons with papal emblem and inscription 'GUARDIA NOBILE'. With the tailor's label inside marked 'DI PONIO ROMA DI PLINIO GERLINI'. Provided with white trousers, white leather gloves and sword. The latter with a straight double-edged blade with remains of engravings, tang marked 'G. CESATI & FI. MILAN ROMA'. Beautiful gilded bronze hilt with papal emblems and three stars in relief. Black coiled grip with remains of metal wire binding. Complete with scabbard. The Noble Guard was dissolved by Pope Paul VI in 1970. height 82 cm.

Lot 72

dating: Third quarter of the 19th Century provenance: Papal States, Black, felt-covered bicorn complete with cockade, stripe and button with tiara on crossed keys and star. Interior with brown leather sweat-band and brown cloth lining stamped 'ESPOSIZIONE UNIVERSALE PARIS'. Signs of use. Red cloth tail coat with black cloth collar and cuffs decorated with branches in gilded threads, two back tips with trophies. Buttons in two rows show the order of the Golden Spur in bas-relief. Interior lined with white silk (with clear signs of use). Complete with large gilded epaulettes with bullions in gilded threads and the order's silver insignia. Complete with light black fabric trousers (a sewn up tear) with two large buttons at the bottom decorated with remains of small coloured glass stones. The Order of the Golden Spur, also known as the Order of the Golden Militia, is a papal order of knighthood with an uncertain date of origin but it certainly dates back to before the 16th century. One of the most famous decorated people of this order (exactly with the Order's medal) was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. height 101 cm.

dating: Second half of the 19th Century provenance: Bavaria, Grand Prior's tail coat made of embroidered white silk decorated with silvered thread, with sequins in floral motifs and lozenges in the colours of Bavaria made of blue velvet and silver sequins. Interior lined in white silk. Remains of a blue label in the collar. Lower border with long fringes in gilded threads. Five missing buttons. Very small defects in the silk. Complete with white silk trousers (broken on one leg, on the knee). Complete with buttons and back buckling. (Length: 80 cm). The Royal Order of St. George for the Defense of the Immaculate Conception was founded by the elector Maximilian II Emmanuel of Bavaria in 1726. Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria (he was the first Bavarian king from 1806) promoted the Order of St. George to the second place after the Order of St. Hubert. height 102 cm.

dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Tibet, Straight, single-edged blade with curved tip made of fine welded steel. Iron hilt with rectangular quillon decorated with vertical grooves, pommel and ferrule richly pierced at the front, the pommel decorated with a red cabochon stone, wooden handle with silver frame and central stave. Leather-covered wooden scabbard with richly pierced and gilt iron mounts, the cap decorated with a turquoise stone, the base with a red cabochon stone. Smooth iron back with leather-lined opening.
