The original brooch fitting which was designed to be detachable has been replaced with a later non-detachable brooch fitting. The largest diamond is estimated to be G/H colour, SI1/SI2 clarity, 5.20mm x 5.20mm x 3.60mm, approximately 0.62 carats. The two second largest stones estimated to be G/H colour, VS2/SI1 clarity, 4.60mm x 4.60mm x 3.30mm, estimated 0.45 carats each, 0.90 carats in total. The two further stones - estimated G/H colour, VS2/VS1 clarity, 4.40mm x 4.40mm x 2.80mm, estimated 0.35 carats each, 0.70 carats in total. Four further stones - estimated G/H colour, SI1/SI2 clarity, 3.30mm to 3.60mm, average length 3.45mm, average width 3.45mm, average weight approximately 0.16 carats, 0.64 carats in total. Thirty-three further diamonds - estimated colour G/H, SI1/SI2 clarity, 1.80mm to 2.60mm, average length 2.20mm, average width 2.20mm, average weight estimated approximately 0.045 carats, total 1.485 carats, no hallmarks, tested to be silver setting with 15ct gold back. Total gross weight 8.70 grams

Fine large late Victorian diamond and gem set novelty brooch in the form of a bee, the central cluster comprising an oval cabochon star ruby surrounded by old cut diamonds, the wings with pavé set old cut diamonds and the domed body set with bands of rubies, emeralds and sapphires alternating with bands of old cut diamonds, all in silver and gold setting, mounted en tremblant to the brooch fitting, 40mm x 30mm CONDITION REPORT Very good condition. All the stones would appear to be original to the piece. The diamonds are all lively well matured stones of reasonably good colour and clarity. Minor chips to two emeralds. One small emerald at the base is possibly a replacement stone and may not be an emerald. The brooch fitting was possibly originally designed to be detachable and has possibly been adapted to be en-tremblant, associated fire staining/solder. Very well made, total gram weight approx 11.4grams
