A very attractive Scottish Victorian silver and cut glass claret jug, hallmarked Edinburgh 1900, Hamilton & Inches, of typical ewer form, the top with hinged spout cover and scrolled side handle, chased with flower heads and foliate scrolls, and centred by a vacant cartouche, the glass body with cut borders and set on a circular foot, 31cm high A particularly attractive and practical example of a claret jug, and with a vacant cartouche would make a fine gift or prize. Hamilton & Inches is a very well regarded firm of silversmiths in Edinburgh still operating today in George Street.
A Regimental George III silver teapot, hallmarked London 1784, by William Tutton (Tweedie), of oval lobed form, with flush hinged lid, pineapple finial, slender spout and wood side handle, lightly engraved with flower heads and repeating borders, the body with crest for ‘Somerset Light Infantry’, inscribed ‘JELLALABAD’. The Regiment has an interesting history and were part of the force that finally defeated Bonnie Prince Charlie at the battle of Culloden in 1746, 25cm, 425g (gross)
