A Household Cavalry officer’s levee dress sword, c 1840, straight, fullered blade 33” (tip slightly shortened) with maker’s name “Andrews 9 Pall Mall London” in etched panel on one side at forte, gilt semi boat shell hilt (the inner portion of the guard officially removed), reinforced edge, upswept quillon, the guard screwed into ball pommel, silver wirebound grip, in a non matching brass mounted leather scabbard. GC, the blade retaining much original polish.

An officer’s full dress sword, c 1835, of the Life Guards, straight fullered blackened blade 33½”, gilt brass boatshell guard with long quillon, knucklebow screwed to ball pommel with prominent cap, solid section to top of silver wirebound swollen grip. GC the hilt retaining approx 20% gilt.

Basically GC (few stitching faults, mounts heavily tarnished but evidently little worn).

An officer’s 22 bore percussion holster pistol, by Ezekiel Baker & Son,15½” overall, sighted barrel 9” with flat topped breech engraved “E Baker & Son, Makers to his Majesty” within tapered panel terminating in a sunburst (the engraving partly obliterated by the rearsight), the signed back action lock engraved with scrolls and martial trophy within wavy border, the plain walnut fullstock with flared butt having small oval silver butt plate and escutcheon, the steel mounts comprising engraved trigger guard with pineapple finial and long ramrod pipe. GWO & C (russet finish and some pitting to metalwork, small fracture line to stock, the swivel ramrod a good replacement) Plate 9

A privately made officer quality .577” Volunteer Snider rifle, 48½” overall, barrel 29¾” with 3 groove rifling secured by 2 flat wedges and having flat topped breech and traces of late type B’ham proof mark (?), the muzzle with unusual bayonet lug, the hinged breech block and barrel tang engraved with scrolls; the line engraved lock signed “Beckwith”; the varnished walnut fullstsock with horn fore end cap, steel mounts, small silver escutcheon engraved “H C Stewart”, striker protector on chain, sling swivels and original leather sling, and incorrect ramrod (from an Enfield rifle). GWO & C, the bore very good (the barrel refinished in the past, front ramrod pipe replaced, butt varnish flaking, dark patina to metalwork). Plate 11
