A late 19th century silver quatreform bonbon dish with two handles and pierced foliate scrolls, the underside engraved 'C.S.D. 1873-1898' and with French hallmarks (800). (25.5 cm wide x 7.5 cm high). (Approx. 207 g) Provenance: Relates to lots 563 and 564. C.S.D. are the initials of Clarence Shepard Day Sr. (1844-1927) and the dates commemorate his 25th wedding anniversary. C.S.D. Sr., was a Governor of the New York Stock Exchange and the father of the author-cartoonist Clarence Day Jr., whose most famous book, the autobiographical American classic 'Life with Father' (1935), gently satirised late Victorian patres familias. It was dramatized in 1939 and had a decade of success on the American stage. In 1947 it was adapted into a film starring William Powell, Irene Dunne and Elizabeth Taylor.

A fine American silver and guilloché enamel pen-holder and stamp-dispenser; the dispenser engraved 'Presented to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle from the members of the San Francisco Spiritualist Society', marked 'STERLING' to inside rim (8 cm diameter of base). Sir Arthur Conan Doyle visited San Francisco in 1923 as part of his second tour of America and Canada. His experiences are described in 'Our Second American Adventure', published in 1924.

Each piece with engraved armorial depicting a standing open-winged raptor, four finely cast and textured feet terminating in scrolls and maker's mark EKR (Edward Ker Reid).
