Works well on FC and HC with a clean bore.

AN 18TH CENTURY INDIAN GOLD OVER SILVER PANDAN OR BETEL NUT BOX, of lobed square form and divided in to four lidded compartments with three of these still containing a betel nut, the central finial shaped as a peacock amidst flowers and foliage and unscrewing to allow the four hinged lids to open, surrounded by eight further smaller birds each holding a pearl hanging from their beaks, the lids and sides pierced with floral and foliate openwork decoration, the based engraved over all as a large single flower, 7.5cm x 7.5cm, 320 grams approx. One hinge with partial loss. From the Tipu Sultan collection acquired by Major Thomas Hart after the siege of Seringapatam. This box was previously sold as lot 4 in our March 2019 auction of items relating to Tipu Sultan and the siege of Seringapatam from the estate of Major Thomas Hart. It had tested as 22 carat plus, however it has since come to light that it is constructed from a thick layer of gold over a white metal core and is now being sold as such.

Lieutenant Robert Montresor Rogers VC (later Major General) 1834-1895, awarded the VC for his bravery at Taku Forts 21st August 1860, one of five VCs awarded on that day.

MOORE LONDON, border engraved rounded actions with sliding trigger guard safeties, bag-shaped flared wooden butts with silver mounts to include grotesque mask butt caps, stand of arms sideplates, and stand of arms escutcheons engraved with the owner's crest, shell carved about the barrel tangs. Daniel Moore (1750-1801). The butt caps with maker's mark possibly that of John King. Work well on FC and HC with some pitting to the bores. (2)

A GOOD PAIR OF EARLY 18TH CENTURY DUTCH 16-BORE FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOLS, 13.75inch sighted damascus two-stage barrels inlaid in silver with a hunter, a stag and a boar, standing upon a platform supported by scrolling foliate strapwork, border and foliate engraved barrel tangs, border and foliate engraved stepped locks and cocks, signed I.I. BEHR, full foliate carved stocks with ornate gilt brass mounts to include pierced sideplates incorporating mythical beasts amidst acanthus scrolls, the trigger guards decorated in the neoclassical fashion with winged cherubic figures, crowned escutcheons with central bust-form cameos flanked by flags and supported by classical figures, border and scroll decorated grotesque mask butt caps, brass tipped wooden ramrods. Johann Jacob Behr worked out of Maastricht and Liege between 1690 and 1740. (2)
