An early 20th century leather cased hunting canteen, containing a plated sandwich box and a glass flask, with plated mounts, and a leather cased flask, with plated mounts, both with saddle attachments (2) Condition report Report by GH Both the sandwich box and the flask in the canteen, are in good condition with no damage to the glass and only normal amounts of wear to the plate on the sandwich tin. The lid of the sandwich tin bears the maker, Merry St James Street. The separate conical drinking flask is also in good condition with no cracks to the glass, but some wear to the silver plated top. The leather is generally in good condition with nice patination and a normal amount of wear. Overall both good.
The Book of Common Prayer, printed by John Baskett and Thomas Newcomb, London 1724, in calf with silver mounts and clasp, and three other leather bound religious volumes (4) Condition report Report by RB The Book of Common Prayer, tightly cropped in parts, end papers with a lot of inscription, frontispiece and page opposite with ink inscriptions also, showing through from the back to the front, and with some calculations. The title page with pencil marks to the bottom, slight browning and staining, the red leather and gilt tooled binding with silver coloured metal mounts to the corners, oval panel to the front initialled A S, and to the rear Dec 21 1720, and with clasps (one missing), spine poor. Other books in the lot: Breviarium Romanum, Antwerp 1715, The Book of Common Prayer, 1709 and Steele (Sir Richard) An Account of the State of the Roman-Catholick Religion Throughout the World, 1715, all with faults, bindings repaired etc.
Taylor (Jeremy) Doctrine and Practice of Repentance, calf, London 1712, ibid A Dissuasive from Popery, Barclay (Robert) Quakers, London 1701, and another volume (4) Condition report Report by RB Popery: title page inscribed James Yonge No 473 in ink to the top, and by to the bottom, modern calf binding and end papers, with frontispiece, generally good. Doctrine and Practice of Repentance: probably original leather boards, the front and back with a heart shaped silver coloured metal panel, bearing a monogram, new spines, and later end papers, the title page a little grubby, frontispiece opposite, bound with Deus Justificatus: A Vindication of the Glory of the Divine Attributes, in the question of Original Sin............, by J E R Taylor, printed 1711, overall generally good, some browning and staining, later end papers, binding a little weak. Quakers (Robert Barclay), fourth edition, 1701, first page of the book is the title page, generally good, re-bound a good 100 years plus, yellow end papers, one inscribed, generally clean. An Impartial Account of the Intolerable Charge of Popery to this Nation, Ralph Smith, 1674, with Imprimatur, generally good, calf boards poor, nibbled, and with a new spine.
