A pair of silver café au lait pots,by Graham Watling of Lacock, London 1970,of hammered elongated baluster form, the pull-off covers with wooden baluster finials,24.5cm high 33oz (2)Graham Watling (1930-1996)Watling studied silversmithing at Loughborough College of Arts and registered his mark in 1959. After seventeen years spent teaching arts and crafts, the National Trust offered him a workshop and house in Lacock, Wiltshire in 1972 He had a successful business there making smaller domestic wares. He died in 1996 and his children, Jane and John, have taken over the workshops where they design and make jewellery.

A silver three-branch candelabrum,by Wallace C Smythe, Sheffield 1990, applied with pierced fretwork panels, 53cm high, 73oz Wallace Smythe was born in 1910 at Dinnington, Sheffield. Aged 14, he won a scholarship to a local School of Art where he studied for the next two years. Then, in 1927, he started his career at Mappin & Webb, ultimately becoming Head of Design. He produced designs for homewares as well as special commissions. Later in his career he became a lecturer at Chesterfield College of Art whilst remaining a freelance designer. He was still actively silversmithing into his 90s.
