A Chinese export silver coloured ovoid pedestal ewer or claret jug, possibly altered from a vase, third quarter 19th century, maker's mark 'S.M.', the domed cover with a leaf and bud finial, the leaf-capped high scroll handle chased with flowers and scrolls, a broad band pierced and chased with birds, flowers, foliage and fruit, a snake entwining the base, on a circular foot chased with a lappet band, 34cm (13.25in) high, 1030g (33 oz) (the cover hinge now detached).
